Y HALO THAR ELJAY. 8D;; Long time no see!

Watched the premier (here in Sweden) of Star Trek♥XI last friday.

Anyone else here (Trekker? First time ST-fan?) feel like discussing it/ranting about it? Any thoughts, positive, negative, bland, anything... I welcome everything since my feelings are quite mixed as well.

Olsen: LoL, yah... he did come off as somewhat of a dumbnut. Watching it for like the 3rd...4th... time, I really get to pick up on more things throughout the movie that I didn't notice the first time. And Olsen's lack-there-of has become definitely more apparent to me. Why would you want to cut your chances of landing to mere inches?? Bragging rights?? Most illogical. [:P]

Spock/Uruha: I'm about halfway through the first TOS series and I've come across those snippets in episodes that you linked me too, and even then, I didn't think much of any potential Spock/Uhura. And it's slowly starting to bug me in relation to the movie... XD; There's definitely hardcore!Kirk/Spock though 8) With some McCoy for flavoring, lol. I nearly died of awesomeness when I saw this. I was so thinking what Kirk was thinking... before he thought it. And then I smirked so slyishly when he did XD In any case, like you said, gotta accept the Spock/Uruha as NewTrek... ;X No use getting our shorts all up in a bundle when we could be enjoying the continuation of the franchise, in whatever limelight.

Losses: Very true -- there was def. minuscule time to mourn losses :/ Thinking about it now, things like the aforementioned are what make the movie exciting. Without that big surprises, I think the movie wouldn't have felt as adventurous and epic as it could've. And it most certainly wouldn't have appealed to non-trekkies. So sorry Romulus, you had to go! But then you had to be a sore loser and take Vulcan down with you. Nuh-uh, not very niiiiice~ I actually never liked Romulans... so... :P

Kirk/Spock: I was talking to a friend of mine about the movie the other day and when we got to the Kirk/Spock "EYE KEEL U" scene, her -- being a trekkie since TOS -- said that she didn't like how quickly and unoriginal the trigger was to get Spock all emotional. I didn't say much about the latter since I never had a problem with how Spock got his ruffles fluttered. And in fact, thinking about it more after the math, I still don't have a problem with it. Mainly since it makes sense for the storyline with prime!Spock basically telling Kirk that he is said over the loss of his planet and it's obvious that Spock confined in his Mom. I think anything else would've been out-of-place. What do you think? ;X

Continuity: Well, the unfortunate side of making room for changing stuff -- is making sure that you're still keeping everything consistent for the world of ST and also in line of protocols for cinematic success. Though I too was "awaaah???" when Spock gave Scotty the formula... after watching it several more times afterwards, it had to be done to keep the story going the way that they had written it. So if we dun want that part to happen, they'd have to backtrack and change up the prior events so everything stays fluid. It's a difficult fruit to slice, IMO, but I guess with going the AU route... you gotta kinda bend the rules a bit... :D;; Though you do bring up a good point with First Contact... that is very true... I supposed yes, they could've done the same in this movie. Actually, yes. I def. agree with that. Write to the producers and tell them to watch First Contact, lol XD Which... btw... I still have on VHS, LOL. One day I'll find the DVD version of it... till then, it's one of the reasons why I still own a VCR hahaha...~~ X)
