Question about dates

Feb 14, 2008 22:31

My new story is set in the Fourth Age and I intend to start each of the chapters with the date.  It might be a single day or it might be a week.  I'm not sure how to make it easiest for people to read.  It's the fourth year of the Fourth Age and from what the Appendix in RotK says for the other ages it would look like this:  F.A. 4

My opinion? I think it would be best to mention the year in the date. Not everyone reads authors' notes, and I suspect the year is even more important than the date or day. But it's a little thing - whatever you're most comfortable with, go with that.

Oh, good point about people not reading the author's notes. I always read author's notes but I've learned that some people never read them. I always find the most interesting things in the notes, and I try and leave interesting things there...

Thanks!

I prefer July 13, F.A 4 as a heading, so that no one would forget we're on the fourth age.

I think you're right on this... it's funny, but I always read author notes every chapter, but I've learned that most people don't do that! I need to make sure that I don't put too much important information in them... not that I did that anyway, but I need to make sure I don't! :)

Thanks for your thoughts on this.
