I haven't been blogging about food much anymore :( The food highlights of the past month have got to be my trips to KL - halal fast food! No kidding. Subway, Carl's Jr, Chili's and more...okay Chili's is a restaurant and not fast food, but it suddenly came to mind. Thing is, why are all these fast food chains not halal in Singapore? Even London has several halal Subway outlets (cos London is <3 <3 <3) My sister was saying it is too expensive for Subway to even consider switching to halal meat sources. That makes sense, I suppose, due to the dearth of halal processed meat suppliers, which I'm assuming is for the sandwiches like Subway melt, cold cut trio, etc. There are only two suppliers in the entire Singapore market. And well, non-Muslim Singaporeans like their bacon. Yup, that too.
Anyway, I had the Subway club sandwich at Sungei Wang, and it was really yummy. I normally have my subs with cheese, toasted, lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers - so conventional, I know. I just can't imagine eating olives in a sandwich (or at all, really) but maybe next time I'll try to add in capsicum. Assuming that the next time I go to KL is in December after the semester exams sigh. At the same time, I am trying to cut out some processed meat from my diet, so maybe it's a good thing that I can only eat Subway when I go to Malaysia hehe. Or London, fingers crossed!
Also, for Carl's Jr at One Utama, I had the Portobello Mushroom Burger, which was huge and juicy and filling. I love mushrooms, and don't mind paying the relatively pricey amount (RM25 for a combo) for a satisfying burger. They were generous with their vegetables and sauce as well, which everyone knows is a godsend because most burgers have puny wilted vegetables in them yuck. The fries are very potatoey too, crispy and with potato skin all over the place. Awesome.
Lastly, Chili's at One Utama had mixed reviews from the family when we went there. My cousin works there part-time so we got a fantastic 30% discount, thus it wasn't expensive at all. The buffalo wings were nicely seasoned and spicy, with a large portion given. My sister had the chicken quesadillas with fresh tomato cubes and lettuce in the middle...points for presentation and taste! My Cajun ribeye steak that I shared with my mum was a little bit overcooked but it's not their fault; after all, I prefer to have my meat medium while my mum eats hers medium well (ugh. I haven't eaten medium well in YEARS) and I obviously have to kowtow to her preferred meat level. Oh well. The bad part was that my cousin's lamb shoulder was undercooked and cold :( Otherwise, Chili's is pretty great overall.
Can't wait for fasting month to start! Food galore <3
