Sometimes, when she starts dwelling on the twelve years she spent waiting for the Doctor to return, Amy comforts herself with the thought that somewhere, in some alternate universe, an alternate Doctor did only take five minutes to come back to an alternate Amelia. Prisoner Zero never spent twelve years hiding out in her room and there'd be no weirdness between the Doctor and Rory, because Rory would still be a boy and not even with them. She would escape Leadworth when she'd first wanted to, and travelled with the man who didn't treat her like a child, the man who was anything but “people”. She'd be able to trust him completely, because there would never be any reason why she shouldn't. She'd grow up amongst the stars and have friends on a hundred different planets.
But then she remembers the adventures that the waiting led to, adventures that never would have happened if the Doctor had only been five minutes.
The waiting doesn't seem so bad then.
