100_women prompt.
Prompt: Wish/Outsides
There was only so much a girl could do to occupy herself while she was locked in a tower. Painting, singing, baking, those things were all very well, but there were only so many cookies Rapunzel could consume and there was only so much space on the walls for her to cover. Eventually, even gazing longingly out the window got boring: her tower may have been tall, but the mountains and forests surrounding it were taller, so the view was limited. She could only hold onto the hope that this year, Mother would grant her wish and let her outside.
Prompt: Green
Pascal had heard the expression “It isn’t easy being green” but he really couldn’t see what all the fuss was about or where the difficulty lay. Green was a good colour. It put people off. Green meant scaly or slimy, so they didn’t come too close. Some might have argued that he had it easy, what with being able to change his colour to blend in with his surroundings but he didn’t really see that as making much of a difference. Green was the colour that suited him best, and it was the colour he would always come back to.
Prompt: Betrayal/Mother
In hindsight, Rapunzel couldn’t believe she hadn’t picked up on the signs that Mother Gothel wasn’t quite all she seemed. She had known that the older woman thought her hair was valuable, but she had been naive enough to believe that she was being protected, not exploited. She felt so betrayed, and yet, as Flynn cut her hair and she watched Mother Gothel turn to dust, she still felt as though she was losing someone important. Mother Gothel might not have been an ideal mother (in fact, she was terrible), but she was the only one Rapunzel had ever known.
Prompt: Transformation/Dreams
She may have had the resources now, but Tiana knew there was still so much work to be done before the old mill would be transformed into her dream restaurant. Floors needed to be polished, windows needed to be cleaned, furniture had to be purchased... Sometimes it was hard to see whether any progress was being made.
But as she and Naveen said goodnight to their guests after the restaurant’s grand opening, she knew that all her hard work had paid off. Food, drink and music had all been enjoyed to the full. Tiana couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Prompt: New/Here
Every one of Princess Jasmine’s suitors was the same. They came waltzing in, wearing expensive clothes with an excessive number of feathers and using big words they thought that she wouldn’t understand, but that would surely sound impressive. They waxed lyrical about her eyes and her hair and her figure, but they never bothered to get to know her properly. She hadn’t felt even the vaguest spark of attraction towards any of them.
But sitting with Aladdin looking out over the city, Princess Jasmine felt something she’d never felt before, something new and wonderful. And she liked it a lot.
Prompt: Midnight/Read
When she was a young girl, Belle somehow developed a fear of the dark, despite her father being a sensible man and assuring her that there was nothing to be afraid of. Small noises would make her jump, and she sometimes thought she saw things moving in the shadows.
That was why she became so interested in books: she used them to distract herself, and would read in bed, often past midnight, until she fell asleep with the book still in her hands. Books always had happy endings, there was no need to be scared of the monsters in those.
Prompt: Scent
It’s never quite made sense to Remy how some people just have no concept of how foods should be put together. He knows the scent of each and every ingredient he uses, and he savours the unique fragrances he creates in the kitchen. He knows that he’d never really be able to work in a restaurant, and that even his family are opposed to his aspirations but he doesn’t see why this should stop him.
His first night in Paris, he’s scared as hell, but he knows this is his big chance. He just has to figure out how exactly.
Prompt: Ice-cream
Jessie was trying to ignore the fingers curled tightly around her as she was led away from the playroom and her friends to the table around which all the day care kids sat for their afternoon tea.
Her expression turned to one of horror as she heard the carer announce to the kids that they were to be treated to ice-cream for being so well-behaved today.
Oh no, thought Jessie, they’re going to be bouncing off the walls. Like this day could get any worse. It was at that moment, she found herself thrust head-first into a bowl of ice-cream.
Prompt: Beauty/Writer's Choice 1
Belle knew that the only thing about her that any of the townspeople appreciated was her beauty. She wondered if there would ever be anyone besides her father who would look beyond her looks, but as time went on, she learnt not to hold her breath. No one in town had time for a woman who spent her time reading books and wanting to learn.
She was beginning to lose hope by the time she came across the Castle in the woods. Little did she know that soon she’d be learning just how hard it was looking beyond the surface.
Prompt: Blue/Blue
Though Prince Phillip was completely captivated by his newly rescued Princess, of course, he couldn’t help but be distracted by the fact that the colour of her dress was switching between pink and blue.
Aurora noticed him glancing at her dress every few moments and followed his gaze, a smile spreading over her face when she realised what was going on.
“Oh, don’t mind that,” she told him, “it’s just the fairies. They often disagree over things like this.”
“It doesn’t matter,” the Prince replied, drawing her close for a kiss (much to the crowd’s delight), “they both suit you.”
