In the bend of the river Kennett, and below West Kennett Long Barrow, is a lesser known site at Avebury called the Swallowhead Spring. It only runs in winter / spring because of the chalky geology (even the river Kennett often dries up in the summer) and it's become a bit of a place for Goddess Spirituality and New Age pilgrimage.

Personally, I am not sure what to think about the fashion for Clouties tied to everything these days. Places does get rather overrun, but they can be colourful and someone seems to be tidying up here now so it's a lot better than it has been over the years I have been visiting.:






This little valley is where the water rises. It all depends on the water table how far from (or how near to) the river the spring breaks the surface. Because of all the snow we had earlier this year we have a little river running right from the back, but on other occasions I have seen it only coming out of the ground near the foot of the willows:
