Some messages are universal, instantly recognizable by anyone in any culture speaking any language anywhere. A wave, for example, can be understood almost anywhere. A kiss between two people, while not necessarily acceptable everywhere, can be understood by all as a symbol of closeness- even love.
Which is why, when Poppy sees that boy- Hyun...min?- raise his eyebrows in that way and shake a case of cheap beer, all while standing in the doorway of his hotel room at four in the morning, he knows what to expect. Hyunmin uses up all the Thai words he knows before they even pop open their first cans, and all Poppy can do is sing lines from famous pop songs in horribly pronounced Korean to break the silence. Hyunmin does his best to correct him, but mostly there's silence. Once the first few cans are gone, the silences cease. They drink, they laugh, they pretend to be trying to understand the words they say to each other.
Then there are no more words and no more cans of beer. Hyunmin fidgets in his spot on the edge of the bed, as if suddenly realizing where exactly he is and the implications involved. Poppy expects him to run any second, bolt for the door and never come back. Instead, he lies back on the bed, folding his arms under his head. He looks up at Poppy, eyes smiling beneath the glasses he never took off after the show. So Poppy takes them off for him, setting them on the table before sitting down on the bed.
He kisses Hyunmin first, light and careful, believing for some reason that maybe Hyunmin's never kissed before. The second their lips touch, Hyunmin pulls him down by the back of the neck, crashing their lips together and forcing Poppy to roll half on top of him, not that he minds. Hands sneak under his t-shirt, forcing sighs from his lips between kisses because it's been so long. Within seconds his shirt is gone, then Hyunmin's shirt, then hands begin exploring elsewhere and Poppy loses himself in the garbled-sounding Korean Hyunmin moans into his ear.
