There is no murder case for the Club to solve in Torn Asunder, the third episode of the virtual season, no bad guy for Lindsay to chase. And yet, the story
inspectorboxer weaves is loaded with suspense. Her second offering of the season is all about relationships, whether describing a union on the verge of collapsing or one about to begin, she expertly takes us along the emotional ride each character goes through. It is utterly gripping and we are left wondering about the fate of each one until the very end. And in the end, there is hope for all, including the fans. It also spotlights unlikely relationships. In the course of this episode, surprising alliances are formed and support is found where it might not be expected.
While the episode focuses on a marriage in trouble, fences needing to be mended and a budding romance, Inspectorboxer includes a very interesting courtroom scene. The trial of Henry Dow, rapist and murderer caught by the Club in season one, sets the stage for some comedy relief courtesy of everyone’s favorite reporter. But laughter quickly turns to dread when, with one line, inspectoboxer skillfully turns up the tension level by reminding us of the ever looming threat of a serial killer.
By the end of the episode two things are made very clear. One, the club is rock solid and two, it’ll have to be if it’s going to survive the danger ahead.
Torn Asunder is another wonderfully crafted episode by Inspectorboxer, another hit by the Virtual Season team and another treat for the readers.
wmc_vs 1 Claire and Jill being in the know while Lindsay and Cindy are clueless about their feelings is truly priceless
2 Cindy going to Tom for help. Cindy is fearless when it comes to getting a story so it’s natural that she would be the same when it comes to her friends. By going to Tom she is putting a lot on the line.
3 Both reconciliation scenes at the holding cell were very poignant. The chemistry was palpable. When Lindsay said “That’s all I want, you know. For you to live. To be happy. To be safe.” I melted.
4 I said this in my comment on the vs comm., but it bears repeating. That line in the courtroom when IB describes Hallelujah Man (great nickname, by the way) plotting is next move. Bone-chilling.
5 And of course, the last scene. When we believe that Ed has left and Claire is just about to crumble, but then she hears him. It made me very happy to find out they were going to try to make their marriage work.
6 And this week, I’m breaking my rule about not going over 5 favorite things because I love this line of Jill’s too much. -“No. Don’t smile. You were a bad reporter.” Too funny!
