WMC - Once Again a Friday Night Event - Episode 2

My thanks to  grumpybear1031 for helping me out with my WMC TV icon and making it look much better!

I don’t have much fiction-writing experience, so the following sentence is purely speculative.  An action sequence has got to be one of the most difficult things to write. Keeping the reader engrossed, sustaining the tension until the ultimate showdown and avoiding over the top clichés are all things the author must have in mind in order to create a believable scene.

demeter94 achieves this on more than one occasion. With Siege, the second installment of the WMC virtual season, she delivers heart-pounding thrills and vivid images. The episode centers around a hostage situation, admittedly a familiar concept in crime dramas, but Demeter breathes new life into this idea by moving effortlessly between points of view and by describing, with remarkable insight, the inner turmoil and frustration felt by the victims and the rescuers. She keeps the action going with surprising twits and turns.  Ultimately, bringing two characters closer to where they are supposed to be even though neither of them is completely aware of it, yet.

All too often in situations like these, the author is quick to end the story and move on. Not so in this case. Demeter allows us to go through some of the aftermath with the characters. It is gut-wrenching to say the least. The trauma of the day morphs into personal drama which remains unresolved. This will keep the audience on pins and needles until the next episode. As frustrating as it might be, isn’t that what good story-telling is supposed to do?

This episode resonated with me on many different levels, and I am not the only one who feels this way. The WMC-VS community is loaded with positive comments. Part of me cannot help wondering if somewhere there isn’t an ABC exec reading the season and discovering the potential fans knew existed all along then telling his accessories “Guys, we might have been too hasty in canceling WMC” To which I would say, “ Um… You THINK?”  Had there been an actual second season, however, we would not be getting this exquisite virtual one.  So, at the end of the day, I believe we win.

1- Lindsay confronts Cindy.  It comes nearly at the end of the episode and although it doesn’t feel like it when you read it, I believe it serves to move their relationship forward. It is one of the gut-wrenching scenes I alluded to earlier.  Lindsay is justifiably angry at Cindy.  Her anger comes from a place of fear and deep affection, but it doesn’t make it any less painful to read.  There is nothing worse than having the person you care the most about yelling at you and being disappointed in you for something you already feel guilty about.  It made me want to cry.

Like any self-respecting shipper I want Cindy and Lindsay together, now, without conflict and delay.  But obviously, I know that the way it is being written by the VS team is much more realistic and plausible. Dramatically, it is brilliant.

2- “Look, I’m working with the police…Kind of…”   That is a perfect Cindy line.

3- Love this analogy:   Cindy had easily circumvented [ the shields Lindsay had built around herself ] in much the same way as she always  managed to make it to the other side of the yellow tape at crime scenes.

4- Peral’s vigilante brand of justice.  I could sense that he was up to something but I did not see his actions coming.

5-   Love the interaction between Jill and Claire.   The fast thinking way they react to the situation.  Even Heather holds up her own.
