On opening night I decided to check out Godzilla: King of the Monsters, sight unseen and without much in the way of reviews/no feedback from friends yet, and invited my dad along with. Pacific Rim Uprising wasn't a perfect sequel to PR1, but it was pretty fun and had a number of good points. It, alas, also failed to kickstart it into being a full ongoing franchise.

Ok, so I just read all four of the books in the Skylark of Space series by EE 'Doc' Smith, one of the first space operas (as in, it's only in contention with *another* of Smith's works, it just depends on whether one counts it's early material).

I recently finished The Baba Yaga by Una McCormack and Eric Brown, which takes place in Brown's 'Weird Space' universe.
