Writing the script for this graphic novel has been interesting, specifically because I'm trying to keep the physics (aside from the whole 'there are vampires with cool powarz thing) fairly realistic. Ie, if you jump through a glass window, you will probably die from the lacerations that you get from all that broken glass. If you have super strength and punch the crap out of a brick wall, you'd better hope you have super damage resistance as well, because it's going to destroy the skin on your hand and shatter your bones to the shoulder.
So it means that I wind up doing a lot of research as I work. Today I have looked up:
1) How long it takes to sail from Cuba to San Francisco, by way of the Panama canal. (Couldn't get a complete answer, but it looks like it'd take someone who had the weather on their side between two and three weeks, plus however long it took to get through the canal.)
2) Whether it is possible to choke someone by the neck with one hand without them being able to easily get away. (Yes, as long as you are much stronger than they are, and you have them off balance, such as by dragging them forward so that they're leaning over a table.)
3) A word similar to 'whore', except nasty enough to get into the 'forbidden swear words' zone. I'd forgotten about 'cunt'.
