I just read NOM's FAQ.
It was completely heartbreaking. They started off by accusing their opposition of "turning the conversation away from marriage" by talking about gay rights. Um, hello, getting married is a right that gays don't have, so the conversation is going to naturally come to that point. It's not like gays want special treatment, like marriage and a pony. They just want to marry the person they love.
Also, NOM spends about fifteen minutes going "the definition of marriage is a union between a man and a woman." That's nice, NOM, I think the entire world learned that back when Adam and Eve were kickin' it in that super fly garden of theirs. WE GET IT ALREADY. Marriage is traditionally between a man and a woman, and, no lie, that's what most of the world thinks of when they hear the word. You think big white dress and a veil and rings and a man in a tux. That's how it works. That's how the human brain works. It's been engrained in our brains that marriage is for a man and a woman all our lives. Thank you, NOM, I think we knew that already.
Basically, their entire stance for existing is their claim that they're "protecting marriage." They want to preserve the definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman. They don't want marriage's definition to expand to include same sex couples. Sure, they spew some shit about gay marriage making it seem like the absent parent is useless (way to go off topic on your own, NOM) and how same-sex marriage will confuse the kiddies, but what it boils down to is this:
NOM does not want the definition of marriage to change, which translates to: They do not want new dictionaries to be printed. This translates to: they are against wasting paper, which translates to: Save the rainforest. So all NOM is really standing for is the protection of cute little frogs and pretty butterflies.
It is now my goal in life to go to a NOM event with a sign that says "Same-sex marriage kills trees" just so people will ask me what the hell I'm talking about.
Seriously, NOM's efforts are pointless. They are protesting change in a rapidly changing world under the guise of protecting the youth of our nation. Well let me give you a scenario and you think on that, NOM.
There is a child sitting somewhere in an overcrowded orphanage. Let's name her Ella. Ella has never known love. She feels worthless and does not understand why she is living on this earth when nobody wants her. Then, along comes a man. Let's call him Fred. Fred has always wanted to be a father and raise children, but he can't do this on his own because he is married to another man named Tom. Tom and Fred obviously can't get pregnant themselves, so they decide to adopt a child. Fred wants to adopt Ella, so he does. Ella goes to live with Fred and Tom, her two new fathers, who care for her and love her and show her that yes, she is wanted. She no longer fades into the background with hundreds of other children. She is special and she knows it, because she has two loving fathers who would do anything for her. And if she's confused as to why there's no mommy in the picture, that's not important. The important thing is that Fred and Tom saved this child from a life of sadness, and now she can grow up to have children of her own and teach them to love and accept others as well.
So, NOM, do you think it would be better for poor Ella to be stuck living a life in that orphanage waiting for a mother and a father that will never show up? Because in your world, that is the life Ella would have.
Grow the fuck up, NOM. You're not in elementary school anymore, and you can't whine about your rights when what you want is painful and hurtful and discriminatory against others. Marriage is a right that everyone deserves. Get out of your comfort zone and take a look at all the hurt that you are causing. You are showing LGBT youth that they are not worth as much as the heterosexual youth. You are scaring them into thinking that this is what is waiting for them when they grow up. You're nothing but a biased playground bully who can't take no for an answer. Well here, have my lunch money for now. Because sooner or later, you're going to end up watching on TV when I win my screenwriting Oscar and flaunt the fact that I never needed that lunch money anyway.
shut the fuck up nom!,
gay is good!,
sorry for the rant...,

annoying stupid people
