Snap Upgrade- Panasonic Lumix LX3

With the weekend gone past, we finally have a new addition to the camera family. I seem to be buying cameras as a faster rate that what could probably be considered financially healthy! But this time I think it was actually valid. During the course of our relocation from Sydney to Singapore, Ericas IXUS860 was accidentally packed by a removalist into an unknown box, belonging to an unknown room, into a shipping containing, sent across the ocean, and then unloaded and packed into a warehouse.

I think it's safe to say that the camera, if not considered lost, won't be making an appearance any time soon!!! And given that she was heading off to China in a few days, not that there's really anything to snap as it's not a holiday, I figured I'd buy her an early pressie to replace the lost IXUS.

And so here we have the Panasonic Lumix LX3. Why this? Basically it's a captive market if you're looking for a compact digicam that shoots raw and records HD Video. You basically only have the Canon G10 or the Lumix LX3. The reason I went for the LX3 is because of the F/2.0 aperture, 720p HD video recording, and the ability to shoot RAW. Yeah I know it's a camera for Erica, and she'd probably prefer some cute little pink one, but well I'm still trying to train her up to use my 40D :) Yeah it's a bit of wishful thinking I know given that it probably weights as much as she does.

I have a feeling other manufacturers are going to break into this niche pretty soon, but technology is just one of those things where you may end up waiting a day, or a year, or even 10, before the next thing you've been waiting for comes along.

So yeah unfortunately it won't fit into a clutch, and just barely squeezes into Erica's Chanel whateveritscalled, but hey.... as if I'm going to factor that into account! Hah! :D Did a few test shots over the weekend, man I have to say it's such a refreshing change to use a compact camera isn't of a large DSLR!
