My childhood pet cat, Felix (or Fil as he was affectionately known) passed away yesterday. It wasn't a total surprise after all he has been through, and after seeing the state he was in I told Mum that it was time... and that's something that I have mixed feelings about...
But rather than talk about how he died, I wanna talk about the kind of cat Fil was. A large (and I don't mean fat, I mean large), white-with-orange feline, with eyes that always seemed to tear-up, a purr that could match an old refrigerator, and the most affectionate cat you would ever find. This was largely due to the fact that he was brought up with plenty of dogs around at any given time, so thinking like a cat didn't come so naturally to Fil.
Back when I first started drawing my comics (featuring myself and my friends at the time), Fil was one of the main characters. But he had character enough without me embellishing it, and he always made us smile for so many reasons. Whether it was the time he jumped off the roof onto a large umbrella and spun around for awhile, or when he caught his own marron to eat from a nearby dam, or any of the times he would follow us around the old property while we were clearing the firebreaks, lying in the pile of leaves we would collect. :D
16 years, lasting right down to the last of his nine lives (7 of them taken when he survived a Kingswood station wagon rolling over his head; I shit you not!) and outlasting almost all of our other pets by an average of 10 years... he was a survivor, and a great companion. We will all miss him dearly. -_-
