T. elenae larvae are entering L2 phase

Feb 11, 2009 23:03

I've checked on the baby spiders, and - quite unbelievably for me - some of them on the top has entered Larva 2 phase, practically overnight plus a day! Dávid says it's all right, they can do that, but still, that's amazing.

I'm more worried about the - seemingly many - unhatched eggs I have discovered on the more underlying parts of the cocoon while I was airing them. So far, I wasn't able to see any kind of mould, but just to make sure, I'll wait another day to see how many of the larvae emerge L2 and then I'll empty the cocoon into the tray. That way, I can dispose of any dead eggs, and also give all the spiders equal heat and humidity conditions.

I'm very-very excited - about their financial worth as well, but more about the fact that they are my first spider hatchlings, and I'm feeling a bit like a daddy... :)
