Addendum to
Fandoms in Trek AUs (+ Trek crews AUs) - Masterpost.
Fandoms that were either intentionally not considered or sadly left out of the project after much pondering.
List might grow (or things removed) over time.
I never had much fandoms, compared to other people, but I mostly held dear to those. Most were part of the most happy years of my life so far, when still I had close friends: we had so much fun RPGing playing live those characters when we met. So, even if I've never been active in those fandom or what, they still come to my mind.
Lord of The Rings movie trilogy (2001-2003)
It's a very choral array of characters but assign positions and roles would be an absolute nightmare. Who would be the captain? Aragon without doubt, but what about poor Gandalf? And where do you put Galadriel and Elrond? And poor Sam, who would be the perfect yeoman/first officer to a Frodo captaincy, what would do? The Fellowship all assigned to security? Science vessel? Warship?
See? Too many answers to bother.
Edit: actually, the whole "carrier with attack fighter" Top Gun approach could apply to LOTR as well (Frodo + Sam, Gimly + Legolas, Merry + Pippin), but it would be harder to split or give roles to the others (Galadriel, Elrond, Aragon with whom, Boromir? And what about Faramir, Éowyn and our favorite Karl Urban, Éomer?)
Top Gun (1986)
They're literally all pilots (with their seconds the navigators). Who would be the engineer? Who captain? Do we get Maverick because Iceman accepted to be his wing? The commander from the USS Enterprise would be their admiral officer? Or would the (hassle)honor go to Viper? Viper would be the captain, with his second as first officer? And what about Charlie?
Impossible. Unless they were all translated into a "attack fighter" scenario, in which they retain all their roles - Viper as pilot and not instructor included, all related to a carrier vessel that would need a different name than "Enterprise" (because, you know), perhaps a USS Top Gun lol. Or would be a USS Enterprise predating the NCC-1701, if the crew was placed in a time near-after the Kelvin tragedy.
Well, that actually makes a bit sense... Top Gun might leave this list and go into the project after all.
Miscellaneous movies
Movies that are either too obscure, with small casts or straight impossible to "trekize".
- Moulin Rouge (2001)
- The Rocky series
- Young Guns (1988)
Marvel movies predating the MCU
There was no shared universe and you'd have to stick with an X-Men first trilogy (never seen the other movies) crew, a Raimi's Spider-Man, the Chris Evan's Fantastic Four and so on. Just... no, thanks.
Comics
Since my goal was to make graphics edits, it would be a very, very hassle to make that kind of edit with comic arts, you would end up picking different artists renderings thus making the final result not... coherent not in the series (I would need to cartoonize the backgrounds, for a start) and not in the various parts of the edit as well?
Also... it would be very very hard to fit superheroes into a non-powered crew, I fear. The only comic book that perhaps could work is the Authority (Wildstorm version) because they lived on a starship vessel and at least one had a role related to the ship. But, meh.
X-Men are just too many, I would need to choose between the characters I like the most and the ones that are more famous/can't just leave out (else, I would leave out Wolverine). Would have to think about picking a specific era, promote the Original Five to admiralty and focus to newer generations, or mix them all up. Also, it would be an hardship to pick the captain. I could go the Team Gold and Team Blue (and perhaps a Team Red and/or X-Force) route to fit them all (Oh gods, a X-Force with Warren captain and Wolverine his first officer would be brutally awesome, those two would spend all their time bickering, Betsy would mutiny, knock them both out and take the captaincy for herself) but... ah!.
Who knows, perhaps in the end I could.
Found a way for this!
Michael Bay's Armageddon
A Trek crew out of them would be possible, a small vessel USS Armadillo, but I don't think I want to bother to work out the wrinkles.
Star Wars (original trilogy)
Would need to be set in the future, as I'm placing the Prequels contemporary to current Kelvin Timeline, so a AOS!TNG. But I'm not that much interested in working this out.
Besides, it's been already done more than once.
Found a place for this!
Manga
Ah ah ah. I mean, One Piece is technically just ready (even if most of the more beloved characters are already captains on their own) but. No. Starfleet made a cadet captain, but I refuse to trust any organization that would place Luffy in charge of a Federation starship. (Edit 2023: although I admit Netflix's version is tempting)
And let's leave poor Naruto to Hokage-in.
Slam Dunk in space would be hilarious. Even if that starship would implode like two days into her maiden voyage.
Other manga of mine are even worst.
