The weekend before last, Mike and I went up to Syracuse with the band to perform in the NYS Fair. It was supposed to be a short parade, but it turned out to be one of the longest all season! Good thing we had all those Band Aides there (thanks Mike!).

Apparently I woke up yesterday being able to do snare rolls. It was kinda neat when I reluctantly accepted the snare part on Berlioz's "March to the Scaffold", which consisted of only one four-measure snare roll at the end, and when I got to my part I was utterly shocked by what came out of the drum when I played it. Last concert, I got to play the timpani in four of eleven pieces, and I enjoyed it.

Our first rehearsal of the Spring season was Monday, and Leslie (the usual timpanist) wasn't there, so I picked up timpani on two pieces, and I LOVED IT. I played the timpani on a Kiss Me Kate and Tchaikovsky's Romeo and Juliet. The timpani part for the ( Read more... )
