Tenty

As you probably know by now, I usually form images in my head of the characters in the book I'm currently reading. Also, they usually take the likeness of famous people, or people from my past. As I read The Red Tent, I find that I'm inventing images for these people, very distinct images, that I can't attribute to one particular person.

The best way I can think of to describe my image for Leah is that she looks similar to the woman with the piercing eyes who was on the cover of that National Geographic photo coffee table book, except her eyes are different colors (naturally), and she's taller (not that you can tell how tall she is from that picture), and her hair is straight, which may not be how she's described in the book, but whatever. As Leah ages, she starts to look a little like the woman depicted in American Gothic, but not a lot, so don't get scared.

Rachel is amorphous and I haven't settled on an image for Bilhah. My image for Zilpah is very distinct and static, but I have no idea where it came from . Her hair is thick, black, and long with tight curls (kind of like Shira's hair but a lot longer). She wears a content, knowing glance and has thick eye brows.

Rebecca is Judy Dench with long white hair. Werenro is Patricia Clarkson (she played Ruth's sister in Six Feet Under, and Julianne Moore's friend in Far From Heaven, and she's been in a lot of stuff).

Jacob looks biblical. That's all I can say.

I couldn't get an image for Isaac because I was picturing him really old but he was described as having dark, thick hair and not having an old face.

Both Laban and Esau kind of had a Tevye/Harvey Fierstein stature.

Now that Dinah is "a woman," I've settled on the image of the oldest daughter on Seventh Heaven for her, but more Semetic.
