I have never been one to focus on holidays. I take note of New Year's, and I somewhat enjoyed the observation of setsubun, in my home, but Christmas was never particularly important to me. Respect-for-the-Aged Day is... well. It isn't uncalled for, anyway.

If you're going to sit in the snow, there are ways to stave off hypothermia. Avoid alcohol, caffeine and nicotine and be sure to eat plenty before you go out there. Also it's best to go out there when you're at peak energy. Hypothermia is more likely to set in if the wind chill is especially sharp or if your clothes get wet. As long as you wrap up, you should be fine even if you're small.
