Nothing too heavy

What I have to say about Ugly Betty can go with the review for tomorrow night. I ditched ER to watch Addams Family Values (and collapsed because I'd forgotten that Peter MacNicol and David Krumholtz were in it. It was MacNicol I'd forgotten about, I remembered Krumholtz.)

It was exquisite. Maybe a little too much in love with Joan Cusack's Debbie, but I ♥ WEDNESDAY!!! And everything. Except the theme tune at the end. And Thing's CGI showing off. But it had Tony Shalhoub and Nathan Lane in tiny supporting roles. And other quality things. How did Sonnenfeld produce this and Men In Black 2???

I'll catch ER on E4 on Thursday. To stop this entry being about my TV watching timetable, I'll talk about what I've been watching (well, Veronica Mars can wait).

American Idol 4 become 3 UK version I'm pleased with the result. LaKisha's never lived up to her voice for me. I might have felt differently had I seen her And I Am Telling You - the clip in her leaving package was impressive, but she and Blake were the weakest (or maybe it's just easier to accept the show's brainwashing that that was so) and he had more to offer and maybe a different fanbase, so logically, Simon's guess was fair.

The theme didn't suit anyone, and Mr Gibb pointed out the obvious, which is that most of the songs were written for a group of men who sang in falsetto. It should have suited Blake the best, and though I'd give him marks for effort, his 'take' didn't quite work. Like everyone (apart from Jordin?) his second performance was better than the first. Whatever the theme is next week, I wish Melinda would pick a belter of a song that everyone knows. As it is, with both of them, I remember an outstanding performance ages back, and hope they can manage others (though Melinda is my vary favourite). Jordin didn't quite kill it with the first song, but was the best in that section, and Woman In Love was too big a song for her (emotionally or musically), though she showed glimpses that suggest that in a couple of years she will 'kill it'. But the night suited nobody.

On Cat's sofa, we had Lance Bass - who had insight on being a popstar, and the Supernanny, who at times, made Paula look like a model of coherence. Her insights? Well, she was there to plug a book. Lance was unfailingly polite but couldn't sit still and looked really thin.

Speaking of looks, Melinda was the only one of the contestants who was flatteringly attired in the results show. The stylist consistently makes Blake look stocky and doesn't quite handle the full figured ladies. Jessica Alba's short screen time was mockable, for which I thank her, Ioan Gruffudd bopping along to LaKisha's final strut was endearing. Oh, and so was Blake, who did his best performance-wise in the group song, nobody else connected. It was mostly terrible until the end - partly because the sound was a disaster. Pink was half-hearted, but then, both shows were underwhelming

I went to the library and they have some really tempting DVDs, which I will probably rent. I didn't today because I am trying to watch the ones that I do have (so I can justify buying more).
