The New Job

Jan 11, 2007 11:56

So, i went to my ex-company's client office for an interview earlier in the week. Was kinda nervous at the prospect of bumping into some of the ex-colleagues but i thought chances of that happening is really low since the company occupies various floors and timing in general.

The reception gave me an application form to fill out. Typical. Scribbled through the first page when i heard some people leaving a meeting room yonder. Gulp! It was really the ex-colleagues, 2 of them. I wasnt close to them so wasnt really keen to have them see me. Thankfully they didnt as they transited to another meeting room.

Continued writing. Moments later i heard a group of people walking in from the main entrance. Heard several exclamations of surprise and i turned my head around to see the CEO, COO and CFO from my ex-company. WTF!? They were the last people i thought i would meet since the management dont exactly make client site visits. In retrospect, must have been some new biz or the like.

As expected, strings of questions poured forth: "What are you doing here!?" "What position are you applying for?" "Who are you meeting?"

Reluctantly supplied them with some basic info and didnt care to elaborate.

The recept interrupted and asked them to wait for their host. They retreated to the back of the room and i could hear them whispering god-knows-what behind my back. Thankfully my interviewer arrived and we went off to one of the meeting rooms.

During the interview, there was a knock on the door and someone opened it a crack just large enough to stick half his head in the doorway. The person peered into the room, for a few seconds, mumbled an apology and closed the door. Now i wasnt quite sure but i think that was one of the 2 ex-colleagues i saw earlier. A few minutes later, the same thing happened again. The interviewer rapped her fingers on the table impatiently and complained "This is getting irritating."

Couldnt agree more. WTF was he up to - if that was my ex-colleague.

Finished up the interview and quickly left to take the lift down. When i thought i couldnt possibly meet any more familiar faces, someone yelled my name: "sunnie! What are you doing here?! Interview har????"

I looked up and it was my ex-boss *groan*

She left the company a few months before me to join this client. Well i guess i shoulda have expected to meet her.

Anyways, the conclusion: i got the job and i will be starting like, Friday, tomorrow! My new boss has to go on a biz trip next week so she wanted to give me an orientation before leaving.

There are sure lotsa familiar faces from the ex-company i will be seeing in the office when they come down for meetings but thankfully i wont be working with them cos it would be just so awkward. At least, i dont think we will work together. I'm gonna be doing something very different, something new - supporting the regional offices in their retail and channel sales and marketing activities. It's an increased regional exposure from the previous job which i'm excited about. Although i can see it's gonna be really challenging lol.

What i'm even more happy about is the office is only 15 minutes tops, by bus wohoo! Compare that to my first job at Kaki Bukit a staggering 1 hour 20 minute journey, and last one at city hall, a 45 minute bus + train ride.

The only thing i regret is - no more late nights of gaming (bio-clock is so screwed), no more Prison Break marathon (i just got to Season 2 Ep 4), no more bumming basically!
