Ah, the classics!
Last night, Maya asked me if we could read "more Odysseus". Ok, how cool is it that a 5 1/2 year old wants to read more of The Odyssey?? We finished the first book on Friday night and she loved it. The next book is The Land of the Dead:
Yesterday, one of the things we did was go to the bookstore. We can spend a couple of hours just browsing and reading and lounging around with the kids at a bookstore. Very often, when we lived in the US, Chris and I would head out to the bookstore when we had a night to ourselves. Dinner, bookstore, coffee. :-)
Anyway, while we were at the bookstore, I took some time to wander in the office supplies/crafts section. That's where I got some of those origami folding papers and stuff. While I was there, Chris and the girls were in the kids section. When I got back, Chris showed me some other classics for kids which we just HAD to buy: A Midsummer Night's Dream by Shakespeare and The Call of the Wild by Jack London. These are Scholastic books, about 50 pages each (big type - Maya could probably read most of each of them). Here's the introductory summary of A Midsummer Night's Dream:
Falling in love is great, right? As long as the person you love loves you back. But that's not always the way things go.
Take this story, for example. Helena loves Demetrius. But Demetrius loves Hermia. And Hermia? She loves a guy named Lysander. He loves Hermia back, so that's good. But Hermia's father wants her to marry Demetrius instead, so that's bad.
Confused? So is everybody else - and that's what makes the story so funny.
LOL! Can't wait to get into these after we finish all 6 books of The Odyssey.
