Author’s Note: Since I first read this manga, I always felt this urge to write about Asada, he’s such... a wacky character and seems to have a knack for turning everything in the hospital onto its head. Though some of the situations came directly from the manga, I also write a few others in order to flush out the character a bit and define his relationship with his colleagues. Enjoy!

Summary: The following list is merely an abstract to the 100 page report on various experiences that Meishin Hospital Employees have experienced in their interactions with Dr. Asada Ryutarou. This by no means summarizes the numerous reports submitted during his employment.

Disclaimer:The following list is merely an abstract to the 100 page report on various encounters that Meishin Hospital Employees have experienced with Dr. Asada Ryutarou. This by no means summarizes the numerous reports submitted during his employment.

1. Katou-sensei always reports for work at the crack of dawn, taking the precious hours of relative silence to review patient files. She shifted through procedures to review, reports to read, files for surgeries to perform, tests to run and most tedious of all, reports to put together before presentations at meetings.

So absorbed in her work, she fails to notice Asada-sensei standing at the door, observing her. Not bothering to knock, he barges into the office and invites himself to perch on top of her desk. He remains there until he gets her undivided attention.

For a moment, they exchange glances, carrying on a silent conversation. Asada-sensei seems to smile with his eyes, obviously up to no good, Katou-sensei notes. Just then, she catches a waft of an unpleasant scent. And there could only be one source.

"Asada-sensei, you neglected your personal hygiene again! Don’t even think about setting a foot in the operating room until you’ve scrubbed yourself clean from head to toe!"

2. "Uh! Help me, I feel an epileptic seizure coming on..." Asada-sensei says as he starts to stagger down the hallway, gasping for air as he braces himself against the wall. Sweat beads formed on his brow as he keels over, one hand reaching out for someone.

Ijyuun-sensei watches, one half of him mulls over the last time this happened while the other half starts to panic. Nevertheless, he grabs the hospital phone and starts to make the call. He tries to hold Asada-sensei down, caught up in the urgency of the situation.

"Psyche! Gotcha again!"

Asada smacks Ijyuun-sensei on the head and half-heartedly suppressing his laugh before he gets up and sprints down the hall way, mission accomplished.

And all of a sudden, Ijyuuin-sensei feels a migraine coming.

3. After the coast is clear, a lone hand reaches out and grabs the first row of cookies laid neatly in the box. Not long after, a second hand reaches in and grabs the next row.

"This is for the interns, please don’t take all of them!"

As if caught, Asada starts to sprint down the hallway, cookie in his mouth as he stuffs the rest into his pocket for later.

4. "Fujiosho-sensei!" a girl of twenty-five cried as she ran to him, stress clearly on her face. Fujiosho-sensei stopped in his tracks, turning to her. Father instinct kicking in, he started to calm her down, speaking soothing words before trying to identify the cause of the sudden outburst.

When the girl finally left, Fujiosho-sensei looked up, he found Asada-sensei standing in the lobby, having just arrived. But that was not what caught his attention.

It was the smirk on Asada-sensei’s face. Geezer, you’re good, another one?

"You- she was a student of mine!" he cried, "Don’t you dare think otherwise!" And with that, he began to chase the snickering Asada-sensei down the hall, all the way to the locker room.

5. Once again, they found themselves working together, Ijyuuin-sensei noted with fear. The last time it happened, Ijyuuin-sensei found himself nearly at his wits’ end, especially when Asada suddenly sat back and had him take care of the appendicitis case.

He hope that it wouldn’t happen this time, though the chances are that it would.

Though this time, Katou-sensei would be the operating surgeon, which meant that things should go smoothly. If Asada-sensei worked as the first surgeon, there would be no problem. Supposedly.

"All right," Asada-sensei said, something about the tone in his voice brought Ijyuuin-sensei on the edge again. "Have fun!"

Have fun? "...Wa...wait a minute," Ijyuuin-sensei said, mildly startled, "aren’t you helping out?"

“Nope, you’re first assistant this time. I’m not doing shit; have fun doing the graft~!”"Asada-sensei replied casually as he adjusted his gloves.

This time, Iyjuuin-sensei’s eyes went wide upon hearing the assignment. WHAT? Are you kidding me? His eyes went from Asada-sensei to Katou-sensei to Asada-sensei. Damn Asada-sensei even said it with a heart mark at the end... oh God.

And all of a sudden, Ijyuuin-sensei felt the urge to scream.

6. Kihara-sensei left the operating room more exhausted and more nervous than usual. The shock of having his orders defied by the newcomer left him more or less enraged. Even as he came face-to-face with Asada-sensei, his finger shook with each reprimanding gesture.

"You. Should. Never. Go. Against. The. Judgment. Of. An. Operating. Surgeon." With each word, his face grew redder, his eyes began to bulge from the pressure he exerted. "I will make you take reponsibility!"

"Me?" Asada-sensei said, smile growing wide on his face, "take responsibility? Weren’t you the operating surgeon? If you want to make it right, then go back and kill the patient!"

Then, Asada-sensei made his exit, leaving Kihara-sensei with his mouth hanging open.

7. Finally meeting up after returning to Tokyo, Asada-sensei escorted Miki out the restaurant.

"I have to say, it has been a while since we’ve had a meal like this."
"Yes, the last time was when we lived in Tohoku."

They stopped short of the cashier, who totaled up the bill. "That will be 3500 yen please." She said cheerfully.

As Miki pulled Asada-sensei along and took another step towards the counter, Asada-sensei took a large step back. But not before Miki grabbed his sleeve firmly. "We’re splitting the bill."

Then after reluctantly forking over the money, Asada-sensei bolted for the door, running as fast as the wind.

"Don’t you even dare to think that you’re gonna live off of me!" Miki yelled after Asada, hands on her hips.

8. Asada-sensei sat backwards in his chair, munching on a donut as Fujiwa-sensei walked past. His eyes followed as his form passed by the doorway, watching as the coat billowed behind him. Then, there was a pause as he stopped and returned to the room.

"Asada-sensei," he greeted, "Professor Noguchi wants to see you. It’s about the baptista surgery you performed yesterday."

Then the doctor stood up, swinging a leg over the chair, expression completely serious. "Really?"

"Yes," Fujiwa-sensei said as he ran a hand through his closely cropped hair, "and it sounded urgent."

"Sweet! But I gotta cut somebody soon, so please tell him that I’m busy."
"But..."
"Here, have a donut before you go."

With that, he happily stuffed a jelly donut into his mouth and walked cheerfully out of the room.

9. "Hello, Asada-sensei," Kitou-sensei greets as he walks past him, "that was a fine surgery you performed today. The improvisation you used was a fine display of your skills."

The comment caused the Asada-sensei to smile, though most likely not from the flattery. "I appreciate your compliments, Kitou-sensei."

The pair journeyed down the hallway in silence until they reached the end of the hall when Kitou-sensei turned to Asada-sensei.

"So about the last time we talked..."

"Yes," Asada-sensei answered without skipping a beat, "let’s talk about it after our shifts. Here is my number. Give it a call after nine."

With that, he smiled and waved, returning to the cardio-thoracic department.

He had failed to mention to Kitou that the number belonged to a former flame during his days at Northern Japan Hospital.

10. (As he watches Katou-sensei work hard in order to obtain some leverage to bring change to the hospital, Asada-sensei bears the mask of a clown and tries to make some changes himself.)

"What do you think you’re doing?!" Katou-sensei finally said when the two managed to find an isolated room far away from the prying ears of lapdog doctors. "If you keep this up, what good will it do? You know that the professor can throw you out any time now!" Anger clearly burned in her eyes.

Suddenly the joker’s face disappeared. "Ends cannot justify the means," Asada-sensei said solemnly. "Just trying to use your reform as a way to cover up these actions and sacrificing so many patients, that’s the way you lose your soul."

Silence lingered between them as Katou-sensei stared straight ahead, battling her inside demons.

Then suddenly, after meeting Asada-sensei’s eyes, she turned and left.
