I'm actually really intrigued by this idea, and I'd actually go so far as to say that Gold/Rumpel is possibly the most HONEST lawyer one could hope for. It might be my own head cannon, but based on what I've seen of the character and from my own understanding of the classic fairytale, Rumpelstiltskin doesn't ever lie. He says exactly what he means and means exactly what he says, and in very precise language. Contracts can't work otherwise. So while he's definitely a trickster, I'd be hesitant to say he perpetuates the myth that lawyers are dishonest. I can almost promise every word out of his mouth has always been absolutely true, and will continue to be for this trial.
You know, I bet he is a great lawyer. I agree he is at least honest about his trickery and in that he presents himself as exactly what he is. I bet he’s amazing, can navigate even the most dense body of law with grace and skill and a little giggle at those silly Supreme Court Justices and their pluralities and dissenting opinions, when the answer is clear to him. I’m actually having a lot of excited Rumpel feelings about it, because Rumpelawyer sounds delicious. But when you come down to it, if you had to put him into a character archetype, it would be ‘trickster’ or ‘wheeler dealer’, and it would be nice once, to get a lawyer character who is say… the hero, or the ingenue - someone who isn’t necessarily sneaky.
