Episode Description Released for 1x18 of OUaT
I am compelled to comment on something released in the 1x18 episode spoilers.
It's been revealed in the newly released episode description that Mr. Gold/Rumpelstiltskin is going to act as someone's lawyer.
Speaking as a legal professional, I'm not sure how I feel about the trickster character being the lawyer. It furthers the lawyers are sneaky, soulless beings trope, when we are actually most often some of the most honest and upstanding people you will meet. On the other hand, I love Rumpel, so sharing a profession with him is kind of exciting.
I wonder if it'll be revealed he actually has a law degree, because if this wasn't a TV show, it would be illegal for him to act as an attorney without one. I wouldn't be surprised if he has one as Mr. Gold, really. A lot of lawyers buy up land and use their degree in being landlords, and Mr. Gold/Rumpel seems to have contract theory down, i.e. everything has a price, or no contract is made.
