Tara pulled the strips from the foetal monitor into her lap and started to read over the print-outs. It was a nice healthy heartbeat and the gentle, regular beep beep of the monitor was soothing to her. It was such a different sensation to when she'd sat day after day at Lachlan's bedside when he was in a coma. Then, the heart monitor was slow and flat, stabbing away at the inner most facets of her heart with every beep because she'd never been able to stop waiting for it to veer into a flat, dead tone. And it had, over and over she'd nearly lost him. Now she was carrying his baby and things were supposed to be so happy and exciting. The baby was healthy and she could still feel the little thing moving inside her regularly. The kicking was getting more and more uncomfortable as the baby grew, but the movement never failed to make her heart warm with an excitement she just wanted to be able to share with her husband.
She had hopes Riley could work some magic with Lachlan. He'd somehow managed to get him to agree to take the baby things back to their home and start to work on the nursery. The two lads were now apparently doing just that, though Tara had some apprehension that is was just going to upset Lachlan further. She folded the strips over neatly, smiling at the even print of the little heartbeat. She rubbed her hand over her stomach, almost as if she could imagine what it was like to hold their child in her arms.
