one of the downsides to managing stress better is what i call a "higher tolerance." in other words, stress can build up to higher levels in your system before you notice/react/de-stress. i need to stop working on managing my stress better and start working on ways to let go of it.
additionally, i'm noticing a problem others around me are experiencing - a feeling of guilt when expressing work-related stress. the economy still sucks and unemployment is very high; chances are you know at least one person who is unemployed and having trouble finding work. it's not an easy position to be in - everyone deserves the right to blow off steam with friends/family/co-workers, but how much can you bitch about work before it's just rubbing it in the faces of those who don't have work to complain about?
when the banks started going under i started thanking my lucky stars every single day that i was working. i was afraid to show any sort of ingratitude for employment, lest the universe decide to repossess some of those lucky stars. unfortunately, that gratitude led to a habit of overlooking the negatives in favor of the positives.
well, it doesn't work that way. my job gets stressful sometimes, and i owe it to myself (and others, if they keep my company) to blow off steam so i am cheerful, positive company. i still haven't found the right balance between bitching and bottling it up, but after this past friday night, 100% bottling just isn't an option. no matter how well-meaning my intentions.
this week is a long week, but a good week.
today is working with three different clients - always tiring, but productive.
tonight is dinner with danny's aunt beth in portola valley (south of SF).
tomorow is DANNY'S BIRTHDAY! i'm getting tons of work done today (also last weekend) so i can take the day off. we're scheduled to go to the oakland zoo, then to see Hot Tub Time Machine, and then dinner with colin and takahiro at the House of Prime Rib in SF. (the weather has been rainy, so we'll have to see about the zoo, but everything else is a sure deal.)
wednesday through friday is more working.
i really miss my weekend/evening sewing and/or crafting time, but i'm committed to not making more project-related messes when we're on the verge of packing up the house anyway. i really cannot wait until we find a house and move already!
