i found some pretty green and white vases for the kitchen at pier 1. they're sort of asian in design, in that the green pattern(s) on the white vases have a dragon, a phoenix and a floral design (one symbol per vase), but they don't really scream "hey i'm asian!" when you look at them. the moment i saw them it was like a little lightbulb flashed on, which i took as a good sign.

when i got home, i decided it was time to change the whole bookshelf/dvd shelf/pub table situation. for those of you who haven't been in our house, the living room space and dining room space are joined in one large rectangle, and it's never really felt like, "ok, this space is for dining room stuff, and this space is for living room stuff." but i moved shelving units around, and i'm much much happier. i left the bookshelves where they were, under the breakfast counter, but i finally organized them so they look like, well, bookshelves. then i dragged the dvd shelves on the perpendicular wall over to meet the bookshelves in the corner. the result: a cozy, colorful nook that feels a lot like a mini-library. the pub table is sitting in the square created by the shelving, directly under the dining room light, so that entire corner now feels like it has purpose. it's a defined space, and when i look at it, i smile. good stuff. ^_^

i also moved the downstairs desk closer to the pub nook, in an effort to make it feel less intrusive in the living room space. it sort of worked. there's still no defining living room boundary and that will continue to bother me... the rugs i used in the old living room aren't big enough to do what i want, but buying a rug large enough would be pretty expensive. i still have the half curtains to hang, not only for color but space definition -- but that requires a trip to the hardware store.

i don't think there's much else i can do today. i had to move all of aiden's stuff, including his pen, and that will need to be re-established in some fashion before bedtime; my current plan is to wait for danny to get home, so he can absorb the changes and then help me decide where aiden's crate should go next.

the downside to creative energy is that, as with all energy, it runs its course. i had this really excellent rush going but i sort of tapped out the flow. now i think i need to sit back, relax, and be happy with what i accomplished.
