i've been reading up on feng shui lately, mainly because i got a pretty good book for free and never knew what it was about, exactly. it's interesting stuff! i'm big on energy flow and that's essentially the point of feng shui - organizing your home and/or workspace to maximize energy flow.

i'm actually very pleased with our house. we looked at quite a few places here in marin (not a ton, but a good amount) and this townhouse gave me the best initial vibe; despite potential setbacks, it just felt right. now, doing these various readings on the layout of the house and what that means for the people who live here, i'm both pleased and encouraged to see those initial vibes were very intuitive and accurate.

for starters, our front door faces north, and our deck faces south. not only does this maximize daylight, it turns out a north-facing door is very positive and auspicious for both me and danny. also, even though it can be a pain furniture-wise, our open floorplan allows energy to circulate through the house without too much impediment. the major downside to the floorplan is the lack of a dining room; but rather than try and pretend, i'm mulling over ways to make that area more of a "family room" so its location potential is maximized, but also available for dining if/when it's needed.

right now, the major issue to address layout-wise is the couch-to-tv relationship. they're basically in each other's corners of the house, but switching them around is easier said than done, mainly because the couch would end up right next to the fireplace, and i like looking at the fireplace.

also, it turns out the kitchen is out of balance, in a way that affects prosperity. now the furniture can wait, but i'll be damned if my kitchen will screw up my earning potential! so today, aside from groceries and the bank, i'm going to search for a small decorative solution to balance the elements. the kitchen basically needs more wood. teehee!
