Not too long ago

Not too long ago (approx. 5 min ago) I just witnessed something that made me realize how stupid some people (read: our society) are. So, I'm all hot and sweaty from waking up early and walking a mile to the post office (this has nothing to do with the story, I just felt like emphasizing that, but that'll be a post for later), and I finally arrive at the med school about 9:10. I decide to get a bottle of water from the vending machine because I don't want to dehydrate. In any case, as I walk by the elevator, there are people working on one of them and there are signs posted on the elevator buttons that say, "ELEVATOR TESTING TODAY 8/2/06 PLEASE USE PCTB ELEVATORS." (And by PCTB elevators, it means elevators down the hall a bit and to the left.) So, I walk past these elevators, not really paying any mind to the notice since I don't ever take the elevators anyway and get my water from the vending machine. As I walk back, there's two or three people that walk up to the elevators. One of them (some asian woman), is about to press the button, but stops and reads the sign. I was about to say "lol" in the back of my head because they have to walk to the other elevators now, but instead, she looks at the other person (who was just waiting there for the asian lady to read it, as if she couldn't read it herself), shrugs, and then pressed the button!! The elevator door opens and they walk in. I distinctly remember walking by right at that moment as the elevators doors were about to close, because she looked right at me as I walked by and I gave her this ugly stare and shook my head as I walked off. I hope the elevator breaks or something. Or at least, they get a harsh scolding from the maintenance crew. Then I'll really lol.

Why are people so stupid?
