While I wait for laundry...

So, I decided to give a post while I wait for laundry machines to free up. I have been meaning to post for awhile, but I just never got around to it. hmm... nope, no real excuse.

In any case, I finished up lab at JHU and bid my farewells to friends colleagues. It's too bad I didn't get into Hopkins to continue my research, but I guess it's a good thing I'm not in Baltimore anymore. Instead, here I am in the lovely Evanston/Chicago where there is oh so many things to do!

The drive from Baltimore to Evanston was not too bad. It was my dad and I switching off every 2-4 hours of driving. We left around noonish or so on the 23rd and got into the Chicagoland area well before noon on the 24th. We found a random inn to crash at in the evening. Other than a few scuffs and scratches, all my furniture made it in one piece, which is good. I have new addition to the desk, and a nice couch. Eventually, I'll get to posting photos on facebook. All in all, the apartment looks good except for the naked walls. Currently, I'm working on finding some nice frames for a few of my posters (I'm thinking 3-4 framed posters) to hang up. I figured I'm going to avoid the whole wallpapering of my walls with posters like before and limit myself to 3-4... keep my place looking somewhat classy. Unfortunately, frames aren't cheap, but I'm trying to find those cheap plastic ones.

Meanwhile, tomorrow is the first day of rotation! After two weeks of orientation at Northwestern, I'm freaking ready to start already! It turns out the lab I'll be rotating in first is very similar to my former lab; they both work on cytokinesis/cytoskeleton and lots of actin related stuff. Supposedly, there's an undergrad in the lab that works like as hard, if not harder, than the grad students... omg... so in order to look good, I have to compare my work ethics to this guy.

There's also this comic book store right near my place, which is a blessing and a curse. A curse because now I'm back into comics, but a blessing because, well, I'm back into comics! I can't believe I missed so much! This time around, though, I've limited myself to just DC comics, whereas before I was on overload and buying everything that looked cool. I'm still a big fan though of Michael Turner and Jim Lee, my two favorite artists.

In any case, things are going pretty well and I hope things will stay that way now that classes and lab are starting up. After today, my free time will be close to nil.
