- The link of the day is Who is Mary Sue, and here are some of the previous links of the day which you may find useful..
- Flashback Sue
- Don't forget about the Sorting Hat.
- The Fourteenth Annual Pottersues is also currently running.
- Note: I took some time off from Pottersues over the last month, as there were some things offline I needed to take care of. When I got back, I found the following TITLE: The Malfoy Family: A True Picture
The Malfoy Family: A True Picture
PERPETRATOR: LeePace’sEyebrows
SUE-O-METER: Toxic
COVER/BANNER ART: Didn't check.
SUMMARY:”With the dark lord defeated at the end of his 5th year, Harry, now in his 6th year, has found his mate in the cousin of one Draco Malfoy. Joining the Malfoy family for the Christmas holidays is an eye opening experience as he discovers the true nature of the seemingly cold and dark family. HP/OC, DM/OC, LM/NM, SS/? And ny of the characters are ooc, this is key to the story.”
FULL NAME: Scorpius and Chaos, plus eventually a Octavius and Aleksius
SPECIES: OCs - all Malfoys?
HAIR: n/a
EYES: n/a
MARKINGS: n/a
POSSESSIONS: I’m not digging that far into this one.
CONNECTION TO CANON: The story starts off with Harry having a Christmas make out session with his random boyfriend of whom the writer stole the name of from an already existing canon character. (I honestly did not plan on this one being the next one on my list when I got back from my very long vacation.) The Malfoy’s are also having a get together, which is a random. I think Chaos is Draco’s soul mate, but I’m not sure.
ORIGIN: Apparently the writer thinks they can repurpose the name of an already existing canon character for their own OC. Except, the title says “Malfoy Family”. Now suddenly Scorpius is Draco’s older cousin. (Sure…) Or maybe it is Chaos that is the cousin? It’s honestly not that clear, sadly. Nope. Both are Malfoy.
SPECIAL ABILITIES: “While Chaos was 24 and technically should attend Hogwarts he was of a heritage that was somewhat of a mystery to the wizarding world thus the schools were often hesitant to extent their welcome. Chaos worked without a wand all the time and also did not use spells, his magic was more fluid and had specialisms with particular elements, for example, his strengths lay in the manipulation of water and air, as well as being prominent in the realms of healing and protections. His abilities meant it was more logical for him to remain at Malfoy manner and a tutor who specialized in this type of magic came to work with him for a few hours, 3 days a week. Chaos also followed the curriculum of Hogwarts but studied mostly independently asking Narcissa or Lucius about anything he did not understand, being at the same level as Draco meant that he liked to complete the same esssays that Draco did and his tutor was more than happy to mark them.” (I guess we should be glad he’s only a year behind Draco then.)

NOTES: When I see words that indicate that a character has finally found their mate, I honestly don’t think of them finding their soul mate, but instead think of them being forced into a relationship against their will. In fact, if you feel that “if any of the characters are ooc, this is key to the story”, then you are indeed forcing them into a relationship against their will, because we all know that if they were IC, they wouldn’t put up with this “mate” hogwash.

Sadly hogwash was not the first word to pop into my head on this one, and I wish I’d actually used the word crap once I started reading the fic. The story has 69 Favs and 72 Follows, and I found myself wondering how that many people didn’t, while reading the story, imagine - well, there is after all a canon character named Scorpius. But then, there is the title. Oh, the implications on this one! I read the first chapter, then skimmed the next two quickly to see the content was pretty much the same.

As one reviewer put it, “sorry, but all of the main characters are either ill, perennial victims, or both,” and there are comments from other reviewers about Harry and Draco needing to be removed from school. (Ron assaulted them - I did skip to chapter eleven, and find myself rolling my eyes.) It’s your usual Dumbledore abuses the trust fund ruse.

Why write fanfic if you aren’t going to keep the characters in character? This just isn’t the world Rowling created anymore.

SAMPLE:

It was a week before the Christmas Holiday's were due to start, and Harry was being dragged down to the dungeons by the eager boy grasping his hand tightly. The excited young man glanced back at the young Gryffindor, his bright blue eyes reflecting his state to Harry who simply laughed. Settling down on the leather sofa beside his boyfriend Harry allowed himself to be pulled into the other boy's side and laid is head down on the broad shoulder. Glancing up at the seventh year Harry saw the flash of nerves cross the older boy's face and frowned a little,

"Scorp? Is everything okay?" The older student ran his teeth over his bottom lip, a habit he tended to when he felt unsure of himself, before turning his body to face his younger mate,

"Erm, well, you know you were saying that you were going to stay here for Christmas? Well we… I was wondering if you would maybe… erm, come and spend Christmas with me and my family… but only if you want to, please don't feel like you have to…" he cut himself off blushing furiously at his nervous rambling. Harry regarded the other boy, gently reaching up to cup his face, leaning forwards to place a gentle kiss against his lips, before pulling back with a broad smile,
