I need poor tips on purchasing a digital camera. I prefer not to order something online, but rather see/feel the camera in person. I need something of good quality, not the cheapest thing out there, obviously not the most expensive, and it needs to be compatible with my MacBook. I'm considering getting a digital camera both because I have some events coming up that I'd like to photograph and because I work in a field where I can get more work if I have one.

I want something basic, easy to use, and as cheap as possible while still being something that will last.

My son is convinced that every toy should be a bath toy. He's got special needs, so while we try to explain that certain toys should never get wet, and try to keep a close eye on him, he still keeps trying, so we've decided not to get him any more toys that can't get wet until he stops trying to put every toy he owns in the sink or bathtub. Does anyone have any good ideas about what to do with almost-drained batteries? Such as the ones you would have after changing a fire alarm or other electronic that doesn't completely drain them. It just seems wasteful to dispose of them straight away, if there was something to do with what might be leftover.

Although money is super tight, my sister and her husband are preparing for a baby in March and I am considering giving them a digital camera for the holidays, both since I know they'll want to capture everything and because it'll help keep me included (I live 2 hours away).
