Unfortunately I need a crown. On the bright side there is very minimal pain, so I can wait a while. I'm a full time graduate student and pitifully uninsured. My parents don't have the money on hand and (naturally) would prefer for this burden to not fall on them ( Read more... )

I broke a crown this morning and now I have to have it replaced.

Problem #1 The dentist I had it done at only guarantees it for one year (it's been 16 months) so he's not going to fix it for free.
Problem #2 My insurance company will only pay to get a crown done on the same tooth once every 8 years.

So I'm stuck paying for the whole darn thing.

Has anyone tried Advantages Dental Plans? They're supposed to be membership programs that offer discounts on visits to the dentist and dental procedures. You pay a fee (around $100 per year) and you get reduced rates to dentists in your area. I'm interested in signing my family up.

My gums have started bleeding recently, I have switched to a softer toothbrush, and used hydrogen peroxide and warm salt water rinses. Is there anything else I can do, save going to the dentist, which would be spending money I do not have?
