Shoe cleaning

Any tips on removing winter salt residue from black fabric? I wore dress shoes out about 2 mos ago and put them away wet... pulled them out today for an interview and there are small stains on them, big enough to be visible, from the snow/salt mix that I must have walked through. I would guess that since it's water that put them there, it's water that will take it away, assuming the fabric is one that is ok to wet repeatedly. It may not all come off the first time you dab at it (maybe a soak?) but should come off eventually.

the water spot's not the issue, it's the salt residue

Indeed that is what I meant. Salt is very soluble in water and this is probably the simplest way.

yeah that sounds like it could work for suede or acutal fabric

for leather I would use a little bit of hand cream acutally on the spot and then rub.

I have some cloth shoes that had the same problem after it had snowed. I just took a wet paper towel and wiped them down, and when they dried there were no more salt marks. Hope it works if you try it! I'm guessing it would only depend on how much salt was absorbed.
