Budget/Diet Assessment

Income is $480 a month. Section 8 Rent is $114, Phone+DSL service is $75~76. Electricity is $15~20. I'm using Skype till the end of the year to avoid long distance charges so my phone bill doesn't fluctuate much. Also, I set aside $100 towards yearly expenses (which total around $700). For food stamps, I'm recieving $46.

My calulations leave me with $170 to spend monthly, assuming I don't spend any cash on food. I know living on $46 a month for food is a joke, even for Michigan, but I'm seriously wondering what kind of condition I could keep myself in.

Here's what my diet (kinda) looks like. A bowl of cheap cereal for breakfast (frosted wheat bars are pretty heavy for their cost), rarely a lunch, either a box of mac and cheese or four eggs, and Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwiches and buttered toast for snacks. I'm going through about 6 slices of bread a day. Throw in the occasional can of veggies, and that's what my diet's lookin like.

o_o Okay, no wonder I never wanna go to the gym. Any suggestions for strengthening my diet? I'm thinking chicken would be the cheapest way to add some meat and bananas for fruit- other than that, I'm open to ideas. Should I be spending more cash on food?
