So...every time HMD comes around, I find myself required to eat my words a little. You remember. That suggestion I gave you many moons ago that Rosella could turn into a Mary Sue, so be careful ( ... )

SHE'S TWENTY YEARS OLD HOW DID THAT HAPPEN. MY LITTLE BABY. TWENTY.

Speaking of things that always come up, I know I always say this at some point on HMD or another, but really, some of my favorite moments with Rosella are the times when I get to take fairy-tale logic and play it completely straight, often with hilarious results because of it. (I remember one time when we still had Warden elections and someone was trying to explain representative democracy to Rosella, and I got to stretch my debating muscles and argue that democracy makes no sense and monarchy is obviously the way to go, because that's what Rosella would think.) So I think that part of what helps to keep her feeling real is taking a kind of tongue-in-cheek approach to her worldview and playing around with that. In a way, I've almost gotten a little bit meta with the Pretty Pretty Princess thing, since Rosella's sort of developed a habit of consciously picking out all the ways that she's not. But she really has never been a traditional sort of princess (she was ( ... )

You and your genre-savvy protagonists. Only, well, it's not technically "genre-savvy," it's more at "lampshading," perhaps (TV Tropes has ruined my life).

OH LMAO ♥ Well, see, that's how he operates, for good or ill. It's not that he's denying what happened, but he's so nonchalant about all these sorts of things, like reputations and eloping and women and curses. I mean, it was a curse. And he's as tired of the post-curse apologies and srs bzns discussions as he is of the curses themselves. He doesn't like the curses, but he's gotten a little more cavalier about them. So, cruel as it sounds, I don't think he set out to cheer her up--really, I think it was just the usual banter. But it did happen, and I am glad of that.

I am looking forward to the Rudy & Mike Show [working title] already!

AAAAAAAAAAAAALWAYS I WANT TO BE WITH YOU, MAKE-BELIEVE WITH YOU, AND LIVE IN HARMONY, HARMONY, OH LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE~!!

P.S.: I know, it's the little things :3

I love them. He who knows the tropes commands the genre. And now you know why I have so much fun on the "like in a children's story" or "like in a fairy tale" curses, because I just go crazy lampshading everything. She wakes up covered in bruises from stuff under her mattress, birds attack her when she tries to get dressed, her one shoe keeps falling off, a lady keeps showing up at the door trying to sell her things, the fire goes out so she has to venture off to that chicken hut in the woods to get more, she almost picks a rose from a flowering hedge but then thinks better of it because it might belong to some beastly person...you name it, I'll find a way to cram it into her life. SO MUCH FUN ( ... )

SO lately I haven't really upkept interaction with your characters v. well, MEA CULPA ;_; , and I seriously need to fix that. From what I creep on as the one stalker to rule them all, I think you are still bamfing it out as usual.

One thing I would mention, and maybe this is just me and my insanely dumbed down recent attention spam: Rosella's posts are at times a bit too lengthy, I think? It's a bit easy to get lost, because she mentions a lot of things, and sometimes it can be difficult to figure out on which issue that she mentions to approach first - too much of a good thing, you know? BUT it might just be me, so idk ;;

For the sake of clarification, is it that she's too tl;dr outside the cut of her "private journal" part, or too tl;dr within them, or just in general? I've been trying to keep from falling into the easy trap of always doing a bunch of private thoughts and then a little polished synopsis for public consumption outside it, and working on different ways to be creative with posting for her, but she's always been something of a blogger and it's her habit, particularly in times of stress, to write out her thoughts as a way of working through them.

So if it's a matter of her personal "Private || Hackable by Friends" stuff being too long...well, I expect that'll get shorter once things die down around the City and she starts to unwind a little more and worry a little less. If it's the public stuff outside the cut, then I'll definitely keep an eye on how much she's writing and try to be more concise with it when I can be!

I think it can be a bit of both, but the 'hackable by friends' part, specifically, you're right. I guess maybe it's my misunderstanding, sob, but I thought that her friends were supposed to read that? Or is that supposed to be fully private / not addressed? orz

Well, it's...Rosella failing at technology, basically. Back in the very beginning of her run at Poly, she didn't know how to filter anything, so everything she wrote was right out on the Network. Then Sam showed her how to filter things, but she kept botching it so her security level was something to the effect of "Private | Woefully Hackable" --meaning, she'd tried to private it so only she could read it, but we had a bunch of hackers running around then and pretty much anyone could get through her security. Several months later, after she'd had practice, her settings stepped up to "Private | Somewhat Hackable", and her private stuff became harder to hack. Then some more coding advancements occurred ICly, and she reached her sort of final standby, "Private | Hackable by Friends". Which mostly came into effect because I think Sam built a backdoor into her code so that he could always get through and read what she was putting into her journal, and it's just sort of never upgraded from there ( ... )

SO as ever am glad that you picked up Finnick. You have a certain flair with him that really works out with his voice but you never, ever forget to work in the seriousness when it is called for and I think that's so crucial to someone like Finnick, in spite of his life basically having been comprised of facades since his own Games, there's a deeper and - I think - kind of sad sort of foundation, beneath it all. Not to say that he is woeful or anything, but he has a measure to him that I have seen other Finnick-players not employ and I really appreciate everything you do work into him, from the private sections of his entries to his thoughts in action. Additionally I am glad of how well you do with his general people-person air, how he can get up to shenanigans and he isn't brooding like say, Gale would be, that he can take a good thing for a good thing, I suppose.

I KNOW THIS ISN'T HELPFUL I'M SORRY T_T;;;;

BUT YEAH UM. Yeah!

/haku on renamed personal etc etc etc orz

Haku I made him play half-naked beach volleyball with Eames against Skeevy Dudes™ in defense of Pretty Ladies™. You cannot talk to me about being serious when it comes to Finnick.

NO REALLY I'M KIDDING I'm really glad he's staying multifaceted and sort of deeper than just the front he puts on. I've been having a little bit of trouble with him lately, more because I'm working against the "been in one place so long / not the type to settle down" duality than anything else, but I will always love him for being the sort of character who can do the most outrageous things and get away with it because he's Finnick Odair and that's just how he rolls. He's like what happens if Chuck Bass and the Old Spice Guy had a kid and made it grow up in Panem. RIDICULOUS.

But yes, thank you, I'm glad you think he's doing okay! Hopefully I'll be able to keep coming up with ways to keep him entertained in the future.

Adskfsdfkfjlsdjsd I can see how that would be a difficulty definitely but I am extra, extra glad you are so far hanging onto him and oh my god Chuck Bass and the Old Spice Guy I AM SOBBING LAUGHINg SCREAMING lmsdlfkjdkjfdsfsd -- BUT YES I MEAN definitely he reads in layers, which is good because it's not THROWN in anyone's face but if one is paying even the average attention, it's certainly there and that's everything in a way, that it is there and not necessarily I suppose that everyone will see it, which makes it that much more real of course.

DSKLSDFJSJFLSJLSDLFJLSJFSDLK I WANT THIS UTENA AU I REALLYYYYY WANT IT sob Katniss with a sword is like the last thing the world needs but FOR THE CURSE she'd be stellar with it and then after the curse she would be like /drops like a hot poker

I have this plan that somehow, someday, someone will get hold of Finnick's phone and publicize all his ringtones to the Network because his musical taste in the City has been like 95% influenced by adoring teenage girls giving him mix CDs as a way of trying to win his love, so everything he listens to is like...so 90's. SO, SO 90's. And he has all these embarrassing ringtones for people (Katniss's, for the record, is Ashlee Simpson's "Boyfriend", specifically:

Hey, how long till you look at your own life,
Instead of looking into mine,
I didn't steal your boyfriend...
Because Finnick has a really weird sense of humor) and it would be completely pointless shenanigans. And I really want to do it.

Not even gonna lie, every time I write Finnick saying "I'm Finnick Odair", I'm secretly thinking to myself "...I'm Chuck Bass." Because I picture him saying it in exactly the same way. Same inflection and everything.

Everybody all up in here pulling swords out of Peeta's chest hacking Snow's roses off each other in duels. Sob.

God help us all, somewhere someone attempted to woo Finnick with "Milkshake" and he learned all the words to the chorus and so now the phrase "damn right, it's better than yours, I could teach you but I'd have to charge" is now a part of his vocabulary. Because I figure that a) music players are big in the Capitol (because of Beetee's size-of-a-glitter-flake player), b) Finnick keeps up with popular trends as a matter of course in order to better do his job, and c) the NPC girls he flirts with are trying to woo him with ~significant music~. So he listens to CDs in his downtime. CDs filled with RIDICULOUS 90'S MUSIC.

For the record, Peeta's ringtone is "How To Save A Life".

I've developed an immunity to being laughed out of my chair for the things Finnick does. Though I admit I do sometimes have to get up and take a lap around my house because I'm giggling too hard to tag properly. YOU HEARD IT HERE FIRST, FOLKS. ALEX'S TAGS SOMETIMES LAG BECAUSE SHE'S LAUGHING TOO HARD TO REPLY.
