Annnd welcome back to the Countdown for today's entry, December 13th! We're halfway there! I've got my Squadron's Christmas Party tonight, so that should be some mandatory fun. Anybody else have any exciting parties to attend this year? I'm going home to Georgia to see the family and friends on the 17th, so I'm pretty jazzed about that. Worry not, the Countdown will continue from the Southeast just as it does from San Diego. And I'm saving some of the best stuff for last!
Every holiday season I go to the store and they've got about a million boxes of smoked salmon laying around. I suppose it's just one of those special foods that people break out when they're feeling festive. My family has never been very big on eating fish, unless it's in stick-form or of the tuna-salad variety, so this mysterious smoked fish has always eluded me. No more, my friends! I bought a chunk of smoked salmon of my very own! After consulting with some salmon-eaters, I decided that the best way to approach this would be to serve it with cream cheese, bagels 'n lox-style.
So, I bought some Eagle River Smoked Salmon. It's not the whole fish - I'm just a little guy, I don't need a giant one - just a fillet that looks like it'll work out pretty well for what I'm aiming for. It's not very appealing by itself on a plate, but behold! Some lightly toasted mini-bagels and cream cheese will do wonders! I wish I had something else to garnish them with, but it'll do. Who wouldn't be impressed at a party if they served appetizers like those! I'd think somebody was awfully fancy if they served me a paper plate full of fish and cheese. But how do they taste? Let's find out.
Outstanding! This is one tasty fish. I was expecting a tuna-fish flavor, but it's much more subtle than that. It's moist, yet firm, and the smooth smoky flavor goes great with the cream cheese. As usual, the bagel simply serves as an implement to get cream cheese into the mouth. Such is the bagel's lot in life. I've got some salmon left over in the fridge, so I should figure out what to do with that. Any suggestions? Like I said, I'm new at this whole smoked salmon thing. Go pick one up and share it with your friends. Thumbs up for smoked salmon! Hooray!
They sure do advertise a lot of beverages on TV. We've looked at plenty of soda here lately, but nobody wants an ice cold Coke when it's 30 degrees outside. Unless you're a polar bear. You need something to warm you from the inside out! No, I don't mean booze! How about hot cocoa? Roll it!

Did those kids dress themselves up in full snow gear to go sit on the porch? Surely their old Grampa didn't do that...Mom didn't either, because she was out at the grocery store! You can tell by the celery sticking out of the top of her bag. Honestly, have you ever purchased celery and had it sticking out of the bag like that? It always happens on TV but I've never seen it in real-life. Anyway, it would seem that the secret to making it snow outside is to drink hot cocoa. If that were actually the case, think of the strict anti-cocoa laws the government would have to enforce, especially in delicate climates. SAY NO TO COCOA! COCOA'S GOT TO GO-GOA! What the hell am I talking about? This commercial is great because it's evidence that holiday miracles can, and DO, happen. They couldn't show it if it wasn't true! Right? Happy Thursday, everybody!
