[He wasn't surprised. Gold wasn't surprised. The "there is something going on, let's investigate"-ness of the whole thing, the familiar behavior behind the Pokémon that more or less perfectly pinpointed Team Rocket's involvement in the event... Both of them had been waiting for this for months.

Yet something was off. Sure, it was familiar, but it was, well, too familiar. Rampaging Pokémon everywhere for what, the third time? After Archer made it all too obvious that he was doing something with radio frequencies? That's it? Flying over and seeing a significant lack of a certain leader of Team Rocket is odd enough to give merit to their suspicions. There's more to this, so it's off to Team Rocket's base of operations to find out more. Granted, neither of them know-

...Gold has more than a good idea of where it is, so it's time to make their way to Team Rocket's base on a bird and a birdplane.]

[Indeed Gold does indeed know, and that's why they're landing right in front of the Game Corner.]

[He pulls on the handle. ... ... ...It's locked. He glances over at Silver now.]

[What does he look like, a walking instant key- Well.

One door's lock picked. ...He's rusty.]

[Excellent. Gold pulls the door open now and walks in.

...It's dark in the building, obviously because it was closed up. Gold reaches over and flips one of the switches on the wall, turning on a set of lights, enough to give the place some illumination.]

...Everything seems normal.

[tsuuuun]

Of course it does. [The more serious tone in Gold's voice helps him refrain from snapping at him, but he still sounds impatient.]

C'mon, let's go. [He walks towards the back of the room with a confident stride in his step. He knows what he's doing.]

[...Wouldn't this be the most obvious place to have Team Rocket's base?]

[It's Team Rocket, dude. Besides, no one would expect it, I guess? Except everyone would, but whatevs.

Along the way, he passes by a rather inconspicuous poster. That's TOO obvious. Rather, he stops at a set of bricks in the back, and stares at them intensely.]

[...It was so obvious, it wasn't even obvious anymore.

Damnit, dad. Let's help observe the bricks.]

...Aha! There we go... [He pushes in one specific brick, which depresses into the wall itself.

A nearby wall, in turn, slips into the wall and slides in, revealing a staircase.]

[Okay, fine. He's impressed. If only because Gold is the right balance of smart and dumb to work out locations like these.

Not that he'll say anything or waste more than a split second looking surprised before heading down those stairs.]

[Don't you find it suspicious at all that he seems like he knows way too much about this, Silver? He's doing too well for it to just be a 'lucky guess' like normal. He actually knows what he's doing.

Down at the bottom of the staircase, they find what appears to be, well... basically a suite.]
