My First Dream About Macbeth

Last night I dreamed about ...

Cats and Demons

I adopted two cats. One was the black cat that in real life I want to adopt, and the other was a white and black cat. I brought them home with some difficulty, and let them out in my apartment when I got home. My apartment was completely different from what it actually is. The black cat was also completely different from what it actually is- he was older than advertised, and had one green and one orange eye. (Actual cat has orange eyes). I was thrown by this. Unsettled.

I did everything correctly according to the articles I've been reading online about cats, but these cats hated me. They yowled, they bit, they stalked around aggressively. I was afraid of them, and deeply disappointed. I wasn't sure how I was going to return them- although the shelter does have a three week return policy on adoptions, I felt awful that I wasn't adequately prepared to handle the responsibility of having pets. I felt that I had made this commitment, so I should honour it.

I left the cats in the apartment and went to the grocery store. (Nothing in this dream was accurate to my actual home or neighbourhood- the grocery store was in a strip mall). When I crossed into the store, I realized that the grocery store was possessed and run by demons. And vampires. In full Halloween-y type costumes- black cloaks with red satin lining, black suits, makeup.

The store was filled with fog and ominous flashing lights. You could see this right before you entered the store, but the implications of a demon-run store hadn't occurred to me until I was already inside.

I was terrified but I also somehow saw this as normal, and I really needed groceries, so I did some shopping. I was hoping the whole time that the vampires would leave me alone because a vampire attack would mean eternal consequences where a demon attack (I think there were also ghouls or some such thing) would just mean a  temporary and recoverable injury. (I was thinking this all through as I shopped. Trying to be strategic).

Success! I shopped without any attacks at all.

Next thing I remember is going to high school. I was at the lockers talking to friends about how cute someone or another was. The school was decorated in orange and black streamers and balloons, as if for Halloween. The decorations looked old and tattered. There was a sense that the school was also possessed and infiltrated with demons and vampires, but I didn't see any.

Analysis: Well, the cat thing is easy to explain. In a few hours I will meet the cat, and next week I will probably bring him home with me. I am worried about taking care of a cat because I don't have any experience with them, and I have been trying to research cat care and cat behaviour. So cats acting out is a worry of mine.

The grocery store and high school, though... that's strange. The cat is black, and people have mentioned Halloween and superstition and whatnot when I have talked about adopting Macbeth. Can't account for demons and vampires. I suppose more manifestations of my fears.
