“I’m surrounded by idiots. I need all the help I can get.” HAHAHA TRUER WORDS YOU NEVER SPOKE, DEAR BOY. So I don’t support Damon pushing for Bonnie to sacrifice herself, obviously. Haha, I was like, pocochina has decided to re-read the 11th grade advanced English syllabus? But nope, it's TVD :).

Right? Such pretentious titles for a show that is basically ABC Family-level teen soapiness + VAMPIRES. It is FABULOUS.

Are you kidding, I love it. This way, I can write papers that say, "there is no way to encounter this particular sex scene without Faulkner on the brain..."

Yay! I love your thoughts. But I have little to add--mainly because it's not all that fresh in my memory.

But! I will say the one thing that continues to stick with me is the brothers' relationship--and Stefan ditching Elena to save DAMON there at the end. Because--again. It's all about Damon for Stefan. It will never not be about Damon. And I really, really love that.

Um. Also, this:

Stefan has a past, okay?!? A PAST! FACEBOOK NEVER FORGETS.

Ahahahahaha!

Wait! More things that are coming back to me: I hated Jenna's death (she's my favorite despite her lack of juicy plot) and I hated the "Uncle" John saving the day. And I hated that Jeremy died and Bonnie just conveniently figured out how to save him--but she couldn't be arsed to share those thoughts when they were worried about Elena dying--or JENNA dying--earlier. ALL BOYS LIVE FOREVER. That's the moral of the story. Unless you're not white--in which case you're SOL.

Also, I'm looking forward to Elijah coming back and kicking some ass.

Okay, that's it.

Yeah, this is turning into a huge issue for me. When I think of the characters I like best on this show, it is a a big old list of ladies, plus Damon. At some point, it gets awful, because they are all dead.

It says something that I had no suspense over Damon's fatal wound, but totally bought the Bonnie fake-out, because he is not expendable in a way all the ladies are. And not that I wanted Alaric to die, because I love him and also he is half of the BroTP of all BroTPs, but if Klaus had possessed a female character, we would have seen her collapse down dead in some gruesome scene, rather than just shambling in like "...sup?"

Particularly as - Pearl. Isobel. And now Jenna. At last count that is ALL of the mother figures (except Katherine, sort of) who died just for shock value, in ways that totally strip them of agency.

At least John went down doing something; Luca and his father at least had an actual reason to be involved. Maybe Greta will get to beat back Klaus, though I'm not optimistic.

Yeahhhhh. I mean, I love the guys, it's not like I want them to die, but... STOP KILLING THE LADIES, SHOW.

At the same time, Elena is so clearly Insano-Death-Wish Girl at this point, I can’t fully condemn anyone for trying to save her from herself.

Heh. I'm more or less in the same place as you, I guess. Though, I still condemn Damon's actions. I just can't get too twisted up about it. Especially since he's the only person who seems to recognise that Elena STILL HAS A DEATH-WISH. This is my #1 point of confusion re: Stefan in this arc. He realises that his girlfriend is still quite suicidal, right? Right? I'm so confused.

It’s not even about dying, it’s about the BLAZE OF GLORYYYYYYY for its own sake.

Yep. The fact that self-sacrifice is heroic is what she's using to justify her death wish. WHICH I LOVE. It doesn't make her admirable, obviously, but it does make me fascinated.

Stefan and Elena can sit around waiting for a sword to leap on, as that seems to make them both perfectly happy.

Ha. And they get their wish, actually. They are both ultimately completely useless in saving anyone. I LOVE IT. (I SAY THAT WITH LOVE.) like, this: ( ... )

His motivations were ultimately selfish and I disapprove of that, but the perspective on what was going on with her and willingness to do something about it gets him points with me, ngl ( ... )

re: Andie. Ah. I kind of get what you mean. Yeah, I'm still super disturbed about that storyline, honestly. Actually, that's my main concern for S3--I'm kind of panicked that they're going to continue that relationship, and do even more damage to Andie's character. I've had peeps reassure me that it would be pretty OOC for Damon to keep carrying on with Andie at the point he's at now, but idk, I STILL WORRY. Your thoughts?

Anyway, glad you enjoyed my large wall of text, and thank you! <3 Um... for some other meta, I'd rec all of eowyn_315's TVD posts. And all our other mutual flisters. :) There's also tvd_meta. Speaking of comms, you will have an interest in tvd_women (though I should probably warn that the majority of members are of the opinion that Damon is vile excrement, so hold on to your hat, lol). Also, if there's any particular sort of fic you're after, lemme know.

I'm still kind of parsing a whole pile of thoughts about me (and female viewers generally) and male characters and yeah, it's a frustrating dynamic.I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR FINDINGS, AS ( ... )

oh, that'd be awful if they actually put Andie and Damon together. She could end up being a great antagonist, though, especially now that Liz is in on the conspiracy.

ha, I joined both comms! I can't get too up in arms about the Damon-hate on tvd-women but I am...not sure what I will have to say around there, lol.

Yes. Exactly. I recall yelling at Elena for being a dumbass at this point because she's willing to sacrifice herself but won't let Bonnie do the same - so not only is Elena dead, but they've also allowed a super werepire to go unrestrained. If Bonnie dies killing Klaus, Bonnie is dead... but so is Klaus. THIS IS NOT HARD. It's a shitty decision, but there's kind of an obvious "least worst option" here, and it annoyed me that only Damon and Bonnie are willing to even consider it.

Because I notice she doesn’t consider the possibility of not changing, and dying like she keeps saying she’s willing to.Haha, I actually kind of liked that? If your choices are "dead" or "vampire," vampire is obviously the better option in this mythology. And the fact that she never says, "I would rather die than spend all of eternity with you, Stefan," shows that Elena's death wish is not so all-encompassing that ( ... )

YES. But then, two whole characters being willing to step back and think is more than I usually get, so I'm still on balance happy with it.

the fact that she never says, "I would rather die than spend all of eternity with you, Stefan," shows that Elena's death wish is not so all-encompassing that she'd throw her life away just on principle.I think she mopes around saying how BAD it would be to be turned, and that she is so WILLING TO DIE, but it's not like she has to be a vampire. She would still have a choice - more of a choice than she had before he did it, because there's not a gun to anyone's head after they deal with Klaus one way or the other. And I think that's what freaks her out, is that then it really would be up to her, which means real agency. Her priority is not to have to deal with anything after flinging herself onto the sword ( ... )
