In case anyone missed it, Glory Days closed yesterday after one performance. I feel vindicated.

In other news, I finally got my hands on the new Skulduggery Pleasant. I'm so, so very excited to get into it. I read the first three chapters at work and was already flailing my hands dramatically with love for Stephanie Valkyrie and Skulduggery ( Read more... )

Hey, there! Have a good weekend. :)

Also, I am looking forward to reading for actual pleasure this summer, and would love to catch up on some good YA lit. So I was thinking you were the place to go for recs! :) Can you hook a girl up?

Also, also: I think that John Sheppard/Buffy Summers joke is HILARIOUS. I mean, I laugh out loud every time I read it. So it's not just you. It's at least also me. Heh.

Do you have a favorite genre? Because, clearly basically all I read is kids' and YA books these days XD I would deeeefinitely recommend Skulduggery Pleasant. They're basically my new favorite books. And The Mysterious Benedict Society. And... I will wait for you to tell me what you like to read before I list a ton of other books XD

I don't understand how there are people who know SGA and don't think that joke is hilarious. Because. Really. There is no better comparison.

I don't think I have a favorite genre -- whatever's good. Is that a genre? I love older kids books, obviously. Hmm, I love the classics like Anne of Green Gables, Madeline L'Engle. Love Louis Sachar and Holes. Harry Potter. The Westing Game, The Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler . . . Well, and you know what kind of t.v. and stuff I like, so I trust you. :)

I. I seriously think that in a Buffy/SGA crossover, Buffy would totally be like, "This guy? Seriously? He's just me with a wrist band." She'd be way more impressed by Ronon. ;)

Okay, before I start, did you know that there's a new Numeroff/Bond book coming out in September? It's called If You Give a Cat a Cupcake! I just saw it on the computer at work today and thought of you!

Okay, here is a (partial) list of books that I highly recommend:

Adventure and/or Fantasy (ish? Sort of.)Skulduggery Pleasant (Derek Landy) - I really can't recommend this book enough. SO MUCH FUN. It's about a twelve year old girl and a sorcerer skeleton detective. It's filled with dry banter and tons of sharp jokes. The characters are fun and the way the author does magic is interesting and believeable. And I am in love with the two main characters. (If you like it, check out the sequel ( ... )

I don't think I got around to telling you how much I adored your description of Glory Days the other day. So much so, that I read it to my daughter. You made me almost want to see it.

Probably for the best that it closed.

Um, I don't actually get the joke, maybe it is because I know almost nothing about John Sheppard. He's the somewhat hyper rounder one from one of the SG shows, right? I saw them all live at con once, but my knowledge of the show is gleaned from comments on my flist and the few scenes that they showed at the panel a few years ago (we were in the room waiting for the Veronica Mars panel). Sorry. I am old and a dork.

Hee, thank you! I'm glad at least someone got something out of Glory Days XD

Yeah, people who aren't familiar with SGA clearly get a free pass on not finding the joke hilarious. The character you described there is actually Rodney McKay (the sekrit love of my life). John Sheppard is the tall, slinky one with dark hair. (see: my icon) Who is incredibly queer. Incredibly. And the bad guys in SGA are most succinctly described as space vampires. So. Girl who can defeat the vampires. XD

I am so sorry. I think I get them straight in my head (no pun intended) when I see both names, I'm not sure why. but, now I remember him, he's the pretty one. I feel as if I have failed fandom, I hang my head in shame.

Thank you for the explanation. Now I get it.

That joke had me laughing the hardest in that entire post.

I was also fond of: What do you get when you cross John Sheppard and a cactus? I don't know, but he couldn't be any harder to hug.

I laughed at the joke because to me the comparison is unexpected and the unexpected is what makes something funny. To me. Also, I see John as *not* girly, so describing him as a girl is funny. To me ( ... )
