Cancer

My sister's step mom in Illinois, Lorna, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer last month. She had two biopsies done on her left breast and learned that they were cancerous. After having an MRI, she was informed that she has Invasiveductal Carnimoa (IDC). The tumor on her left breast measures 4 cm, and the lymph node by her left nipple was also found to be cancerous.

On April 10 she'll be undergoing a mastectomy, at the same time the doctors will be checking the lymph nodes under her arms to see if they're cancerous as well. After surgery she'll still need to undergo chemotherapy, followed by 5-6 weeks of radiation therapy. There may be changes to her treatment after they discover the full extent of her cancer.

After her surgery she'll need to close her Learning Center for at least two weeks for recovery, after that it may need to remained closed for months while she's undergoing chemo and radiation. This is a concern for the family: closing the Learning Center will have a big impact on the financial stability on the family. There's a big fear that they'll lose the house.

How You Can Help Online
My sister, Christine, and I have decided to open up a fundraiser online with Youcaring.com. We have 80 days to raise as much money as we can to help with medical expenses, bills, etc. So far we've raised almost $300 in the last week.

You can find the website here.
Every dollar counts, leave your information and we'll send you a thank you gift.

How You Can Help In Person
During early summer we're planning a bake sale/ fundraiser. We're taking any physical donations to be sold. I'm planning on making a bunch of earrings, necklaces, and lace frame earring holders. For the bake sale, Christine will be baking cookies and possible painted frames. The skateboard company Eric works for, Shredder's Lair, has donated two new boards to the cause! I have friends who're donating hand knitted items, hand made bags (made from folded potato/tortilla chip bags), photography prints, etc

At the moment we may have found a place to host, but I want to get a date set before I start promoting it.

We're looking for donations for this event: it could be jewelry, food, art prints, simple crafts, clothing, etc. We may even have a face painter, so parents bring your kids! Any one who donates an item is welcome to leave us a stack of business cards that we'll place next to the items donated.

If you or anyone you know would be wiling to donate please email me at PocketOfGreen@gmail.com

lorna's fundraiser, assertion, family in general, collaborations, the sister, cancer, yay me for getting stuff done
