I've been really, incredibly lazy about blogging lately. Partly due to my attempts to catch up on all my reading, which hasn't really been effective.
A group of friends and I went to see The Dark Knight Rises midnight showing last week. I enjoyed it, but my favorite will always be the previous movie, Dark Knight. Anne Hathaway was an impressive Catwoman, but honestly I can't compare her to Tim Burton's Catwoman. Christopher Nolan creates much more realistic villains, such as the depth to Nolan's Catwoman's back story vs. Burton's. Both Michelle Pfeiffer and Anne Hathaways played their parts well, but I wished I could have seen more Catwoman in DKR. Also, I'm incredibly excited for Halloween this year because only
Bane could make a popped collar look so sexy, amirite? Which reminds me, I appreciate the hell out of how Nolan portrayed Bane as opposed to Joel Schumacher's Hulk Bane in
Batman and Robin.
My only real complaint was that the beginning of the movie was kind of hard to follow. That's mainly based on my impatience to try and predict the outcome. In the end all the plot lines tied together, so my complaint isn't a dramatic one. Did anyone else feel like he left the series open for more movies? I mean, there was a definite sense of completion, but
with the *spoilers* addition of JGL as Robin and keeping Bruce Wayne alive...
It felt as though he was saying, "Hey guys, I'm done, but if anyone else wants to try and take over here's this." A part of me really wishes that Nolan would stay on for maybe one or two more movies. I know at this point it's easy to sell out and ruin the movies *ahem*Schumacher*ahem*, but I would have liked to see what Nolan could have done with other villains, particularly Poison Ivy.
Then there was the shooting in Aurora. On the shooting and shooter itself, everything I had to say
r_a_black said better, so
I'll forward you to her blog post about it. My sympathies go out to the families; I can't imagine the terror of experiencing something like that. It's a damn shame that humanity, while capable of the more amazing things, can be equally as capable of the most devastating tragedies. I'm generalizing of course.
Edit: Shortly after the shooting a message spread like wildfire on social networking sites asking Christian Bale to come (in costume) visit the victims. Until the message ended up on Entertainment Weekly and other major sites, I didn't think it would actually be enough to convince Bale. Apparently though, he's been spotted coming in and out of the hospital(s) where the victims are. What I wanted to comment on is my appreciation that not only is Bale actually visiting, but he's not doing it for publicity- at least not outright. He's only been spotted, and thus far hasn't proudly announced to the media that he's doing this. It feels a lot more sincere this way, than had he asked a cameraman to follow him in and pose for photos. It makes me wonder if any of the other actors from DKR are going to do the same.
Lastly, I got WB to send my library a few DKR posters. We gave away a couple last week, but we'll probably give away more since we still have quite a few. Click the picture below to go to the library's blog post about the giveaway.
