What: A renegotiation of the terms of their agreement.
Rose felt like shit that had been run over by a London bus during the Boxing Day rush. She'd gone out with her mum once for all the sales, and by the time they'd gotten back home that evening, Rose had felt at least this miserable, minus the splitting headache. She'd spent a good few hours crying after Jareth had left the night before, and another few hours of it that morning out of sheer self-pity. With the way things in her life seemed to be going at the moment, she didn't feel the least bit ashamed about it, either.
Despite the bit of hope he'd offered her by insistently pointing out the night before that he was willing to renegotiate the terms of their "arrangement", as she'd come to think of it, she hadn't really expected him to fight for it as he seemed to be. She couldn't understand it, not completely anyway. Not in a way that didn't include making the sort of assumptions about him and them that continued to get her into these awful messes.
She did her best to try looking at least halfway decent when she started for the elevator, not having the energy to tackle the four flights of stairs between them, but she was sure she still looked as awful as she felt. A sweater and jeans and a comb through her hair couldn't change things that easily. She hadn't wanted him to see her this way, but there was no avoiding it now that she'd agreed to go to his room. She approached the door with trepidation and her hand almost shook when she lifted it to knock.
