Ray just refilled the birdfeeders.  The one in the sugar maple has had a baffle on it to keep squirrels away.  Didn't really work any more, as the buggers just did the Kama Sutra for one (fluffy-tailed version) and proceeded to nom away.   And then they ripped the whole assembly apart.  Ray tried to put it back together.  Found himself quite ( Read more... )

I took it down yesterday to clean it out.  After a while, seeds and seed dust get packed in on the bottom, and it turns to a seed "cake".  While it was down, I figured out that an enterprising squirrel had disconnected one of the springs which hold the outer cage up to enable birds to feed, yet prevent squirrels from doing so.  I fished it through ( Read more... )

As I've said before, the cats enjoy the placement of the birdfeeders tremendously.  There is a ledge outside the main picture window.  It is just the length of one brick deep.  The birds like to grab food then fly over to the ledge to eat it.  Today a squirrel did likewise.

I just watched a very fluffy squirrel climb up the pole which holds the second birdfeeder I put out front.  He got up level with the birdfeeder itself, reached over to get at it, failed, and slid down the pole to the ground.  Hilarious.

Took a walk today.  Passed our across-the-street neighbor's house, where he had contractors encircle the huge ash tree in his front yard with a low wall filled totally with paving stone.  White paving stone.  I don't understand the design of this:

Five hours at my friend/customer's house today.  That's about the limit of what I can do.  It was a good thing it was overcast.  I was working on the side of the house that gets the hottest; it would have been brutal had the sun been out.  I got all but one fixture working, and that one remains because I lacked the particular bulb it needs.  It's ( Read more... )
