Overdue Collection Update is Overdue. Also, Plush Cleaning Question.

Jul 19, 2009 14:17

So, life has been pelting me with so many rotten tomatoes, dead rats, and sour lemons that I have not been really able to come round here to do a collection update and read this community, until today when I finally found the time and energy to do an update; I need to ask a question too.

Apologies if the photographs look rather blurry; I don't have the steadiest hands around.

Movie anniversary zukan collection! I found one-half of the complete set being sold together at just under S$30 at a shop, which is quite a bargain if you consider how high each of them can individually sell. And yes, I managed to fix that unfortunate mark on my Lugia zukan; it just so turns out that my mum had a huge block of Magic Eraser lying around, albeit being branded as a Japanese product (oO) . I now use it to clean my zukan collection whenever they get really dusty.

Oh, and if you are wondering, that Lugia zukan sits on my computer desktop as workspace decor, replacing my Latios Pokédex figure; I was somewhat inspired by this workspace I read about here.

Some other random zukans, a Chimchar figure (what are these figures called again? I read it somewhere and forgot), Dialga phone strap figure, Palkia McDonald's toy (which I bought for S$0.80 at a flea market, lol) and Giratina notebooks. I intend to use one and keep the other as part of my collection, which is why I bought two.

Remember him?

The shop replaced the headless zukan with one that finally had a head, but unfortunately the legs are slightly twisted >> . Oh well, twisted legs Darkrai is better than headless Darkrai, no?

I bought another frame to frame up my Latios movie mini-poster, but the new frame turned out to be slightly larger than the older ones. I decided to use it as a "centrepiece" frame, with the Lugia movie poster as the centrepiece, and shifting the Latios poster to the older frame.

And finally, for a weird story. So I happen to know this strange old lady who collects junk and sells them to junk collection and recycling companies for a living; when I go out cycling, I could sometimes run past her ground-floor apartment just to see if there's anything of value or use in her pile of junk and see if I can salvage them (seriously, some of the things that I have seen getting thrown out could have been better gotten rid of via a garage sale or being donated to someone else - I once saw an entire collection of encyclopedias being tossed out). I usually find nothing, but usually doesn't mean always.

The other day, while running past that apartment and the piles of junk outside it again, I found this:

Someone actually tossed out a perfectly good Manaphy plush! I checked it and, other than some very slight fraying on the tag and a tiny bit of dirt, the plush is otherwise fine.

So, without hesitation I asked that old lady whether I could have it, and she told me to take it if I so desire. And so, this poor Manaphy plush - junked out heartlessly by someone - is now in my loving, caring hands. Seriously, wasn't that person who threw out this plush afraid that the plush might come alive and take revenge on him/her for tossing it out?

Pictures of the tag; apologies for the exceptionally blurry pictures as these were taken with my camera phone, rather than my digital camera like my other collection photos above. Can anyone identify which collection this Manaphy come from?

Also, the more important question: how do I go about washing this thing? Since this was salvaged from piles of junk, I fear that it might have gathered some other kind of dirt - God knows where this plush has been to before it landed in my hands. I was thinking of dumping it into the washing machine and putting it through a delicate wash cycle, but I'm afraid that even that might damage the plush. Does anyone have any better ideas?

Also, has anyone here ever been through a similar situation here, chancing upon and salvaging Pokémon items junked out by someone else?
