So this costume is becoming endless entertainment for me. Here is the latest update:
I had a pre-conceived notion that married women, especially those with kids would own a sewing machine. I needed some help with sewing to make the hat for this costume, and for the skirt, so i asked around. First i asked one of my friends who's family is here if they had a sewing machine. Then i asked around at work where almost everyone is married and about half have kids. At two sites, no luck. No one i know owns a sewing machine! And they all laughed their asses off when i asked! One coworker, rebecca, a mother of 3, who i thought certainly would have one, when i asked said, "look at me! do i look like i have a sewing machine?" (she was indicating that her pants were long and if she had a sewing machine they would be hemmed better). So apparently i was totally wrong with that idea, and laughed my ass off with that.
I was able to circumvent that though. The biggest thing i thought i would need that for would be to make the orange skirt i did not think i would be able to find, but eventually did. The hat though i did sew by hand. Took longer than a machine would, but in the end it's way easier than buying a sewing machine. And it made me feel very crafty and i feel proud at the end that the hat is done. Now i still need to put the yellowish stripes on the orange skirt. So for that i found a fabric adhesive that i will use to attach the stripes.
Fabric isnt too expensive. i got 1 1/2' x 3' of yellowish (the skirt stripes), 2'x3' of flannel green (for the hat), and a yard of elastic for under $4. The most "costly" thing was the fuzzy balls needed at the end of the hat which were around $2.
So now left is just to make and attach the stripes to the skirt, cut the sleeves of the pink turtle neck, and wait for the arrival of the blue boots that i bought from target.com and the pink wig that has still yet to arrive and is starting to make me nervous.
