that's fucking teamwork!

So I spent last week in Albuquerque for my Pre-Service Orientation with AmeriCorps VISTA. I was pretty nervous at the beginning, since I didn't know anyone going and wasn't sure I'd have anyone to talk to, etc. But it turns out that it was bundles of fun (as much fun as sitting in lecture-type settings for 7 hours a day). I made a lot of cool new friends, too, who will all be serving in the Kansas-Missouri area. I met a few people serving in NM and AZ too but probably won't see them as often. Anyway, I learned so much about poverty in the United States and how to be an effective VISTA (volunteer in service to America, btw).

At night, my new friends and I went to Old Town and shopped, as well as saw HP5. It was pretty good - not as good as the book, obviously, but still good. And the hotel gave us vouchers for free drinks in the bar each night, so needless to say, that's where we spent a majority of our free time!

It was a pretty great experience, minus the fact that I became deathly ill with the head cold from hell. I'm still pretty miserable. I can't hear out of either of my ears, which is frustrating, but oh well. This will eventually pass, right?!

Tomorrow I start my first day at the YMCA. I guess you could say that it's my first day as an almost adult. I mean, things could be more adult-like. As in, I could be living on my own and all that jazz. But you know. This is the closest I'm going to get in the next year or so. Probably more. So yeah. I'm an adult. Tomorrow also marks the first day of my new PIMP, or personal improvement plan, which includes a workout regime and healthy eating. I'm cutting out all of the crap in my life. It's time to get myself back on track! Wish me luck. It's going to be a battle. But I'm hoping that I'm just so busy with work, that all I'll have time for is work, working out, showering, and sleeping. That would be ok with me.

Speaking of life, my folks sold their house. It was only on the market for 11 months! Yikes. So that's exciting for them. It means that my car is going to get a) new brakes, b) a overall tuneup, and c) detailed. It'll be like having a brand new car...but only not. I heart my car and he's been good to me. He just needs to be treated better. He was certainly neglected the 4 years I was at school. So back to the house thing: the folks are 90% sure they're renting this cute littler house that's in my old neighborhood. So that'll be weird...stopping at the old gas station and renting videos from the old Blockbuster, etc. I'll drive by my house all the time to get to the mall and the pool, etc. But I think I'm ok with it. The house is pretty cute, though. I finally saw it today for the first time. I'm going to take the teeny tiny bedroom in the basement/rec room. That way I'm sorta isolated and can have some freckin' privacy! Yay.

That's all I have to say right now.

I'll let you know how the job thing goes this week.
WISH ME LUCK!
