Thoughts and prayers are out of network

I'm buying Mom's Christmas presents again, because she just cannot shop online. She kept buying duplicates of things, or not buying things at all--like she'd put them in her cart and start the purchase but never actually complete it--and then getting mad when they never showed up. Although so far only David has given me his wish list; as always, a list of colognes. David collects fragrances like I do fountain pens: we love them enough to actually use them. (He always smells great, I'll give him that.)

But apparently I messed up last year when I only bought one present for everyone, Mom says I should spend about $100 per kid. So although I'd already bought myself another lot of old Life magazines (from the same eBay seller) for collage material, that was only about $30. So also got myself a bunch of skincare stuff from Tonymoly: face and eye masks, pore cleansing stuff, a couple of sample sets.

I'm on record as saying I think most skincare is a scam, and my normal routine is washing with a literal bar of soap in the morning, using the CVS Aveeno knockoff moisturizer, and taking my makeup off with cold cream at night. However, there's just something I like about mid-priced skincare products. Like, it feels indulgent in an affordable way. And it's not that I think most of it does nothing, I just don't think those results are anything but temporary. Like if I do a sheet mask before bed my skin will feel softer or look more glow-y, but that will have faded by the time I wake up.

So then I thought shit, if I'm getting all this skincare I should probably finally get a fridge for it, because it's going to take all year to use it all and it will last longer. After some poking around on Amazon I decided on this one; the low price made me skeptical, but it has a 4 1/2 star average rating and a lot of the much higher-priced ones only have 4 or less. (I paid for the fridge myself since I hit the $100 limit with the Tonymoly purchase.) Also I'm really a sucker for that midcentury look.

I'm going to tell David he can keep his insulin in it. He's been using the bar fridge, and that thing is ancient. If it's not constantly full of sodas and iced tea it doesn't cool evenly, and there's always water at the bottom. It can't be good to keep vital medicine in it.

Oh and that HBO yacht rock documentary was dope, if you were wondering. I queued it up for Mom last night, because I knew that even if she didn't follow all the technical discussions about how Steely Dan's Aja was produced, or understand how "yacht rock" is a genre (because at the time no one called it that), she would recognize all the songs and enjoy hearing from the musicians who recorded them.
